This is before I factored in that Channel 4 have got "Britain's Fattest People" on at the same time. Dear god you can't make it up.

Bring Back Borstal as a title isn't provocative enough.
I agree.

They really should have called it 'Grind the B*stards Down'.

Looking at the week of 15th to 19th December, I'd say that its the afternoon line-up from 13:00 to 17:00 that drags the channel share down badly. To give an idea:

12:00 - Hollyoaks: 1.9%
12:30 - Maternity Court: 0.9%
13:00 - How I Met Your Mother: 1.4%
14:00 - The Big Bang Theory: 3.1%
15:00 - Rules of Engagement: 1.7%
16:00 - Melissa and Joey: 1.5%
16:30 - Suburgatory: 1.2%
17:00 - How I Met Your Mother: 1.3%

Aside from Hollyoaks and The Big Bang Theory (surprise surprise), the rest of the line-up under performs, especially Maternity Court and Suburgatory.
Thanks Dave. I suppose you have to admire their restraint in not running back-to-back Big Bang through the day as Comedy Central does with Friends. I know it's still on plenty enough, but given the audience appears out of nowhere for it at 2pm amongst lower rating shows it's fair to say the demand is there for even more.

Tongue in cheek but that's what was behind the suggestion - a shock title supposedly draws people in.

Very strong figures for BBC News last night - the Six got 6.044 million and the Ten 5.672 million; BBC regional news second in the overall ratings with 6.451 million
I thought the Six would go well. With 33% share, probably the performance of the day.

Not sure I can take to Death in Paradise, a show set in the Carribean sunshine just doesn't suit the Winter months IMO.
It seems your poinion is completely different to most viewers though.

Well it was a night when people were going to tune into the news so not unexpected. What did ITV news get?

#CelebrityBigBrother 2015 launched to 3.3m/16.3% on C5 (Total) - higher Share than last year's 3.4m/15% launch figure http://www.overnights.tv

Last night's soaps:
Corrie - 7.45m/34.3%
EastEnders - 6.30m/26.9%
Emmerdale - 6.25m/30.4%

@TVRatingsUK · 3m 3 minutes ago
#SilentWitness comfortably won the 9pm slot with another strong 6.42m/27.6%. On ITV, a #MidsomerMurders repeat from 8pm drew 2.50m/10.9%.

Channel 5 beating ITV at 9pm
Wow for 'Silent Witless' , good retention from Tuesday looking forward to seeing it now. Only Corrie had more viewers. 😍

Looks like a good many EE fans did not know it was on yesterday or BARB cant count.
Does not bode well for all the other out of slot eps coming up.
😝😜 I don't watch EE the better half does and she knew it was on.

Not surprised with the EE rating as it was out of slot. SW performing strongly again. Cbb also getting off to a good start.
How many times has that excuse been used lately? 😜

Seriously Four must be annoyed at the success of CBB, their alternative was another offering from the big bag of shite they got for Christmas.😄

Brilliant. And that is why CBB is so successful for Channel 5.

Well I really enjoyed DIP I hope the move to Thurs doesn't hurt it.
The last series of DIP premiered with an overnight of 7.13m, but it did involve a heavily-promoted change of lead actor.

The only other episode to overnight above 7m was episode 5 which had the highest overnight of the series, 7.19m. The lowest overnight rating was for episode 6 (6.42m) which was on against Man City v Barcelona (overnight 5.71m).

Be about 6.5m I reckon.

So the slot average is a 6.0% share of 16-34s? This seems quite high, but if it's a 12-month average for Wednesday 21:00-23:00 then it will include a fair amount of BB and CBB I guess.

Nigh on 30% share in that demo is fantastic and surely made the channel #1. I wonder what was #2 - Channel 4's 24 Hours in A&E and Big Fat...Quiz repeat I would guess.

Broadcast magazine confirms that the top pure-timeshifting programme in week ending 28 December was the Top Gear Patagonia special on Saturday 27th, which went from 4.70m (20.7%) overnight to 7.21m (27.45%), a pure timeshift of +2.50m (with a tape-checking adjustment of +0.01m).

The second part on Sunday 28th was the runner-up, with +2.49m in pure timeshift (4.84m/19.4% => 7.38m/25.5%, tape-checking adjustment of +0.05m).

Sadly I can't see it getting that figure, but I would guess 6.5mil.

Many in here complained about how "poorly" the Top Gear specials did over Christmas, but 4.7m is a brilliant consolidated figure for BBC2, never mind an overnight. And, as we all already knew, even those who moaned, Top Gear is one of those programmes where a significant chunk of its audience watch at their own convenience. It has that sort of viewer.

You can see why the BBC let Clarkson get away with so much. He could present a whole programme dressed as a Black & White Minstrel and they still wouldn't sack him. "What?! I was making an ironic satirical comment about 1920s racism."

Couple of other timeshifters I noticed:

Wed 24/12 (22:55) - Mrs Brown's Boys (r): 4.26m (26.4%) overnight + 0.88m pure timeshift
= 5.14m (28.4%) consolidated
* repeat of a 2013 Christmas special

Sat 27/12 (23:05) - Not Going Outtakes: 2.04m (16.2%) overnight + 0.79m pure timeshift + 0.01m adjustment
= 2.84m (19.6%) consolidated

Unsurprisingly on the day of the omnibus, no place in the top 30 consolidators for Boxing Day EastEnders (so less than +0.79m in pure timeshift), but the rest of the weeks' episodes do chart: Monday (+0.95m), Tuesday (+0.81m), Xmas Eve (+1.03m) and Xmas Day (+1.24m).

Can anyone help me with these overnight ratings? I need +1-included figures and shares please.

- Downton Abbey (r), ITV, 16:15 on Boxing Day [ronant gave 1.72m but I need the share please]
- Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., C4, 19:05 on Boxing Day [exc +1: 0.58m/2.6%]*
- Homeland, C4, 21:00 on Sun 28th [exc +1: 1.31m/5.7%]

Many thanks

* It was barmy of C4 to put S.H.I.E.L.D. on Boxing Day; it got completely lost.

I liked the Death In Paradise opener. It would be a shame if the move to Thursday had a detrimental effect.

I'd like to see it match the highs of series 3 but 6.5m sadly seems more likely.

I think it was promoted badly, the overnight would have been higher like with the series last year. The enormous timeshift must be partly down to seeing The Argentina row and people rushing to iPlayer as they didn't know it was on. 7m is a great figure for Top Gear nd BBC2.

Question Time and This Week both compelling TV tonight, the latter in particular well worth 'iPlayer-ing".
