3.47 (10%) for Birds of a Feather. Big shame as it was a very good episode. When does it finally face less competition? If it can grow back to at least 4.5 in overnights then it wouldn't be too bad.

I've got it recorded. Not watched any of this series live.

4.2m for Would I lie to you? Thanks to its Eastenders sandwich. Is that the most watched episode ever?

Next week it's against a one off Watchdog special but Eastenders is back the following week due to the Fa Cup

I think that does indeed make it the most watched WILTY yeah. I think it's come close to that a few times but not gone quite that high.

Birds getting a really tough time, I wonder if this is BBC1's response to bitterness over rejecting the revival? It'll probably still get renewed. ITV need all the comedy they can get and even at that level it's better than most other stuff they've aired in that slot.

Thank God! I was worried moving Death In Paradise to Thursday would hurt its ratings, That's a great rating and share. I do think that had it been on Tuesday it would have been just over 7m. Would love this show to get 9m at least one time.

Hmmm. In the same 'decent but unspectacular' category as SW and BC. As some have said though, maybe 7m *is* the new 10m.

Seriously?

Death In Paradise usually rates around this level. You rarely see above 7m for a weeknight 9pm drama, especially on a Thursday. 5m is decent and the minimum I think all mainstream 9pm dramas should get. 7m is very good and over 8m is excellent.

I'm assuming there won't be an EE on Friday January 23 as BBC1 has the Cambridge v Manchester United FA Cup tie

The only thing that could get Big Brother ratings down is the FA Cup and Broadchurch now.

Which is why it's a decent performance without being spectacular

I'd say 7m is good rather than very good, unless we're readjusting expectations as I alluded to in the original post. In any case It didn't get 7m

Not sure it isn't too soon to go around saying that. We've only had two days.

I think there is a lot of truth in what you say about 7m being the new 10m. It seems rare for most weeknight 9pm dramas these days.

Death in Paradise returns with 6.9m on BBC One

Death in Paradise returned with high ratings to top Thursday evening, overnight data reveals.

The BBC One crime drama attracted an average 6.91 million (29.7%) at 9pm. This is down from last year's launch of 7.13m (29.7%), but is still its third-highest ever audience.

Earlier, Would I Lie To You? brought in 4.19m (18.9%) at 8pm, while Question Time gathered 2.80m (23.4%) at 10.35pm.

BBC Two's Somerset: After the Floods interested 1.57m (6.9%) at 8pm, followed by Super Rich & Us with 1.73m (7.4%) at 9pm.

On ITV, Jeremy Kyle's new series The Kyle Files attracted 2.61m (12.2%) at 7.30pm (115,000/0.5% on +1). Birds of a Feather amused 3.47m (10.0%) at 8.30pm (159k/0.7%), and Bring Back Borstal intrigued 2.23m (9.6%) at 9pm (330k/2.0%).

Channel 4's Location, Location, Location was seen by 1.80m (7.9%) at 8pm (172k/0.7%), followed by Shut-Ins: Britain's Fattest People with 1.42m (6.1%) at 9pm (215k/1.3%). Sex Party Secrets fascinated 1.38m (8.3%) at 10pm (166k/1.8%).

On Channel 5, Secrets of the Egyptian Pyramids brought in 1.00m (4.4%) at 8pm. Celebrity Big Brother continued with 2.35m (10.1%) at 9pm (202k/1.2%), followed by the return of Botched Up Bodies with 858k (5.1%) at 10pm (122k/1.3%).

BBC Three's showing of Avengers Assemble thrilled 895k (3.9%) at 7.45pm.

I assume that Birds of A Feather share is wrong, as there won't have been 35 million people watching TV.

Correct. There'll be a double Thursday episode again, same as last night, except with Room 101 in the EE sandwich rather than Would I Lie To You.

Yes I think, given the hype over its return, I was expecting a few more for the Broadchurch launch. As others have said the football contract fell very nicely for the BBC there. Is there any news regarding timeshifting for Broadchurch btw?

As for the football, The first two draws haven't produced any big time ties so its trying to chase a story. The Liverpool game was that and so I would suspect will the Man U one in round 4. I have a few doubts the BBC would have chosen that had Man U been at home. Figures overall goodish so far and it feels like there is more of an atmosphere- and the prospect of the bigger clubs surviving to round 5 where there is more chance of them meeting up.

But bear in mind that you're refering to the greatest years of its peak where Celebrity Big Brother launches were rating really highly. Nowadays the launch is lucky to get 3 million so the drop off is bound to be lower. Loosing 20% of your audience in the first night doesn't look promising let's see what the weekend figures tell us.

Excellent for DIP so the change of day has had no affect and it just seems to be at its peak at the moment.
I think its a bit disappointing fro EE. While the first share is fine the extra eps was predictably well down and a fair drop from Tuesday as well. Its a pity WILTY does not get more support in the schedule its a fine show and deserves better although a good figure last night.
