Er no..
The new tone has gone down well with most critics and fans of the show, so as long as the consolidated viewing figures are decent - does anyone have them yet? - a third series at 9pm is entirely possible. The first series sold to 140 countries - only Doctor Who sold to more - so if this figure doesn't drop too much for series 2, again it will count in the show's favour. |

Looks to me like as Benidorm appeals to younger viewers, it was dented by about 1m by the return of 8 Out of Ten Cats and CBB. Both over 2m. But it was a great ep last night and next week looks good, so it should hold around the 5m mark for the rest of the series. I do enjoy Benidorm at this time of year, its just nice escapism.
Its a shame these comedies for ITV all seem to start off with weaker episodes: BOAF, Benidorm and Vicious. It means viewers drift off uicker than if they were stronger. |

The 'Peter Pan' adaption might not be as epic as the films, but it really highlights ITV's renewed investment in 2015 in drama. I make that four new exciting commissions, something really different. I have high hopes for all: Jekyll and Hyde, Beowulf, Thunderbirds Are Ago, and Peter Pan.

Could Stars in Your Eyes not just dent TV UK but beat it?
(I know it's not called that but everyone in my family calls it that and I suspect I'm not alone in that!) It's a risky move either way but if they had to insist on Saturday nights in January then you can understand why they'd go for the opposite of the serious Voice. That said it's never going to be more than a 5 million rater at best on average is it? |

Not a chance I'd say but I think it has the potential to hold its own. You can see why they're going for a different vibe with it. The old one may have been event tv in the 90s, but then it became dated filler, much like Millionaire. What would be the point bringing it back exactly as it was when the format was worn out?

The odd thing for Benidorm is that they've just lost the Garvey family who have been there from the start and are central to the shows plot, but next week Johnny Vegas' Oracle returns for the first time in years, and he vies with Tim Healy to be its biggest known star. So it's like one big chunk of the cast lost, one big star making a comeback. Can't recall any other sitcom doing that mid-series before.
