Did Wardrobe run out of money for male Celebs costumes?

Mark was wearing a button down polo shirt, a Marks and Spencer Xmas jumper and a pair of jodhpurs.

Steve was wearing what looked like his everyday explorer clothes with a token bit of glitter on collar.

Jake was wearing a vest made from a large babygro, a pyjama jacket with the sleeeves cut off, Trousers stolen from one of Santa's elves and a pair of shoes I swear I saw in my local charity shop last week.

The wardrobe is really dire this year for both the males and females. Sack the stylist.

Diabolical costumes this week especially Mark - that sweet and tender dance in those silly trousers and jumper!!!!!!!!

I thought the same, the men could have just walked in off the street. Still if they can't afford proper presenters to front the show, it is bound to go down hill. The whole show looks shabby compared to how it once was.

When they stood there all at the beginning I had a true WTF moment. The only costume with any wow factor for me was Natalie's

Dunno what's wrong with me but apart from the silly sparkles, I liked Mark's attire.

But not Steve and Jake's get up. Especially not Scott's.

I thought M&S had been getting more sparkly recently. They've obviously been making a bid for the Strictly job. Next we'll be seeing the female celebs in sequinned jeggings and 3 for 2 tee shirts.

The whole show's clearly suffering budget cutbacks. I thought the mens' outfits were terrible for the last 2 shows. No effort, and clearly quite a few outfits were straight off the peg.

With no big name "2 weeks only" celebrity this year, and only one sportsman, and even they're "who?", it seems that either the BBC couldn't get anyone or wouldn't pay to get anyone. This is the second season in a row where the BBC have clearly struggled to fill the required numbers, and TBH, I can't see the show going on much longer in it's current form. It's a pale shadow of what it used to be, and not simply because Bruce has left.

Given the ratings they do not need to cut back the budget, SCD is doing very well.

I am pretty sure Brendan was the only male pro who wasn't in something akin to street wear or at best smart casual. Not that I want them all in spangles all the time but still...

On another note I was not a fan of Claudia's top on the result show, it looked like a half finished job from the Sewing Bee.

Same here. Loved Natalie's dress.

The male celebs costumes this year are truly bizarre. All their trousers are too tight.

Trousers are too tight though everywhere. I fear there will be a complete gap in the school intake fives years in the wake of this fashion

Steve's outfit was terrible, it looked like something from a 70's mail order catalogue!

I agree, their dance would have looked far more effective if Mark had worn white tie and tails.

Sorry, I've just started a new thread about outfits, I didn't realise this one was already running.
I absolutely agree with the comments here. The outfits this year are very disappointing, many of the men look like they are wearing ordinary clothes off the street.
And the girls, and that includes Tess, Claudia and Darcy, are not wearing pretty dresses or have their hair styled anywhere near as well as last year. Greatly disappointing, because I enjoy seeing the pretty dresses.

The worst one was Aliona as a sexy maid. Sexy maid!!?? This is 2014, not 1979. She had all the wit, mystique and allure of a stripogram.

Don't give them ideas mimi....

I have to agree with all the points here - but in wardrobe's defence there are a lot of people to dress for the first few weeks - maybe it will improve later.

I miss the old days when the men appeared in black trousers and a sparkly top for Latin and a proper dinner suit/tails for ballroom and the ladies wore actual dresses not what would pass for their underwear in some cases (does that make me an old fogey....)

Now they are starting to look like refugees from Man @ C&A

A lot of the male celebs costumes were very brown.

Basically unless you are a female doing a waltz you might as well raid your kids' dressing up box.

This. I really was a bit "WTF?" when I saw it previewed on ITT.

Mind you it made her fed up expression even more noticeable in contrast to the saucy persona the costume implied. They might as well have put a thought bubble over her head saying "Please say Gregg and Aliona!" when the results were being read out.

For a walk in the park/garden? bit odd to be in tails in that setting.

I think the outfits are fine and match the imagery they are trying to create, if Kevin is dancing in a 50's diner he needs to be in a leather jacket, if Anton's playing tennis he's dressed like that, if steve's exploring or Jake's on a beach their hardly going to be in a bowtie, Aliona was fine as a tea room waitress.

When you watch a films with dancing in the actors dance in the costume fitting of the scene they don't all change to a suit and tie when dancing.

Must admit I was a bit aghast at some of the 'celebs' apparel especially Mark's sparkly jumper but I guess their clothes sort of fitted the scenes they were dancing in. Thought the beautiful floaty blue dresses and male outfits the professionals wore for the 'frozen' sequence though looked amazing.

The unfortunate reality is that because the current government froze the Licence Fee when it came into power, all BBC shows are now routinely subjected to budget cuts (15% is standard) - even hugely successful ones like SCD.

It was obvious from the first show that costume has been hit by this and I'd expect more to follow. I don't think this is the beginning of the end for the show - but the fact that people are noticing says a lot.

How the BBC spends its money is a massive political football - but the fact that cuts made more to appease the Tories' friends in the private sector are visible on-screen means that we are all suffering because of something designed to weaken the BBC as a whole.

Sorry to bring politics into it - but that's why budget cuts are implemented. The fact that Strictly obviously hasn't been able to use the loss of Bruce as means of reducing its budget enough speaks volumes.

Grey seems to be they're in colour for the men and waistcoats and bottoms showing .
The only male wearing a tailcoat was Trent but it was a not too pretty tan colour .

She was a waitress (perhaps a 'nippy'?) and looked fine to me though they would have to struggle to make Aliona look bad.
