Must fix out the male costumes they have been awful so far. Mark's jumper did not go with Karen's dress.

.....and Scott's trousers were far too short. All very odd the male outfits this year.

They didn't make her look bad- they made the programme look bad: tired and dated.

Not a maid, a waitress, but it does not matter you decided to get offended already.

I think the outfits are fine and match the imagery they are trying to create, if Kevin is dancing in a 50's diner he needs to be in a leather jacket, if Anton's playing tennis he's dressed like that, if steve's exploring or Jake's on a beach their hardly going to be in a bowtie, Aliona was fine as a tea room waitress.

When you watch a films with dancing in the actors dance in the costume fitting of the scene they don't all change to a suit and tie when dancing.”

Whilst I understand, for some reason, they feel the need to act out a story) hate that), but isn't it sufficient to set the scene in the introduction, then just dance to the music?. Is it necessary to dress in clothes that relate to the words of the song. Seems ridiculous to me, they ALL should be wearing recognised Ballroom and Latin attire.

Trent was not wearing a tailsuit. But on a similar theme, when they dress the men in tails, why make them wear those ridiculous cummerbands when they should be wearing a white waistcoat. For those non dancers, this is not a waistcoat in the true sense but a part of the tailsuit that is worn by competitors. White bow tie only please.

How will they dress, (right or left, Sir?), for ballroom dances?

The ballroom trousers - part of the tailsuit - really are very roomy, so no problem there,

But why does every dance have to be themed? I appreciate that I'm more than likely a complete philistine but I don't get Lady Chatterly from 90 seconds of twirling to Jason Mraz - even with a glammed up wooly pully.

Totally agree, said as much in an earlier post. I really think the BBC has lost the plot this year.

Totally agree about the male costumes. I had to have an inward giggle about Gregg's two costumes. Before the series started he said he was "ready to completely embrace the glitz and glamour". So what did he get? A waistcoat with a few sparkles on it, and chef's whites. Hardly glitz or glam.

They do look idiotic...but then that often starts with all the props/story lines they set up at the beginning.

If the scene/story is of a jungle adventurer they can hardly appear in a tail suit can they?

And there's a direct comparison with past/present:

Ramps in black pants and sparkly shirt to do a salsa to Hot Hot Hot walks onto the set with his partner.

Thom set up as a life guard so has to be in a silly chair and wearing track suit bottoms and vest to do the same dance to the same music having got out of the chair/ shed his whistle etc.

And we all know whose dance was best

To be honest, I don't think the actual props have been so intrusive this year - it's when a VT starts with the comment 'the story for the dance is ... and so to prepare we have ...' my heart sinks. Some dances have always had supposed stories attached - the rhumba is the worst (when for me there are basically 2 rhumba stories - yes, no, yes, no - can't you take no for an answer? I'm off - or yes, no, yes no - oh go on then) but is it really necessary for a stilted cha cha to have a soap plot?

Sunetra and Natalie have had the best costumes, the rest especially the males have been awful, Brendan was ok but he probably raided his own wardrobe when he saw what the BBC were making him wear

I haven't really been loving the outfits this year. What's this weird trend for having strings of pearls across the chest on the ladies outfits? I've seen three so far that have had this. There doesn't seem to be the usual level of diamantes & rhinestones going on this year which is a shame. There were some absolutely lovely costumes last year and every week I'd sit there thinking "I want that, and that.... and that" but there hasn't really been anything so far that's really taken my fancy.

Natalie'd dress for the waltz has been my favourite so far. She looked like an angel who'd fallen to earth. <3

The costumes are part of the draw of strictly for me... I hope they get better as time goes on.
