Prompted by all the talk of music today being crap and new bands being over-hyped and all indie music sounding the same, I thought I'd finally start a thread about The Arcade Fire. I was waiting to see if someone else would, but I think I've only seen one other person apart from me mention them on this forum (?!). 'Funeral' is one of those albums that's so good that you can't help recommending it to other people as you know there's a good chance they'll love it (this has been proved right with many of my friends/family ). I've had it 3 or 4 months and I'm still playing it regularly.

There are lots of excellent reviews around but in a nutshell it's an album full of emotion mainly about lost love ones and grief but the key is it's uplifting and optimistic and never overemotional or depressing. Musically its brilliant with many instruments being used and many influences drawn on to create a sound of their own which is quite original. Rarely do I gush about an album but I've made an exception for this one . If you like any sort of pop/indie/rock music go listen to it!

I haven't actually heard the album yet, but David Bowie has been heavily promoting it via his website over the past few months, and a lot of BowieNet members are now also aware of the band. Must get a copy as it's being recommended from so many different sources.

Are you going to any of their upcoming gigs?

Heard this the other week and it's a good album. Kind of album that people who watch X-Factor will call you pretentious for listening too, which makes knowing about these bands, and actively seaching out good music, even more of a guilty pleasure.

Did I mention Dinosaur jr. are considering touring again? Not hijacking the thread, but thought i'd mention.

was it you who mentioned them a while back, with links to clips of a few bands?

thought they sounded great - will look out for the album.

and dinosaur jr - never really had any of their stuff, but 'freak scene' was always a favourite down the student union!

and i do have one of their more recent singles (i say recent, but it was probably about 8-10 yrs ago) with 'the pickle song', which is just one of those brilliantly barmy 90 seconds of pop magic.

I downloaded it on Delgado's recommendation a few weeks ago. It totally rocks.

It feels epic.

Yes, that was me . That was before the album was released in the UK but its been out here for a little while now.

I don't think I've ever seen a negative review of the album and surely its a matter of time before more people catch on. May be it will be like The Killers and it will take 6 months.....

I'm gonna try to go to one of their gigs as they've been getting brilliant live reviews as well .

The site I posted last year, where you can listen to 3 songs from the album, is here. The fairly low quality doesn't fully do them justice but you get the idea .
