Killing off Anna was a big mistake, so was having her story mostly being about Will. Her death was also very weak with her allowing Will to drown her! She might have been mentally ill, but she wasn't stupid (as shown by her escaping all the time).

Anna spent most of her life being terrified of Patrick, who is a very abusive man. So why then would Anna allow her own son to get away with the murder of his wife by taking the blame herself and allow him out there to remain a threat to other people (which he was with Ash and Dodger and then again with the whole family and Martha)?

She was willing to kill herself and her daughter just to try and kill Patrick to make sure that he could never hurt anyone again, but she allowed her son to go free to kill people that gets in his way, which is a line that Patrick never crossed. Her son was much worse than her husband.

We should have also have seen more scenes with Anna, Sienna and Mark, they were her children too (and so was Liberty, who even though she wasn't there wasn't even mentioned by anyone) and if they had more scenes with Anna and Patrick we could have heard about some of their history and why didn't Dirk visit her?

Why was it all about Will (including being the sole owner of Anna's house)? What a waste.

I also think it was a mistake killing of Sam and Danny. It's clear they only got rid of them because they would have stood in the way of Cameron getting close to Leela and Peri. Sam was more of a waste than Danny, who I didn't like, but did play his role as the father. Sam was a good character, a better cop than Sonny and was apart of JP's rape story. She is a character that should not have been killed off.

I also miss Jim, he was a great character, very funny but he could also be serious. He was also good with Carmel, but didn't the actor decide to leave? Either way, Jim dying and being replaced by Sonny was a huge mistake. Sonny may be in the right when it comes to wanting justice for his brothers murder, but he is in no way likeable.

I agree with all of this. I think Danny was not so much of a loss, though I would have got rid of him after the rape trial. It would have made more sense for the killing of the Lomaxes to be after a story event in which they both played a big part.

Jim, Sam, Texas and Anna should not have been killed off.

Jim was a great character.

Sam had lots more potential with the Leela/Peri storyline.

Texas and Dodger were believable together. The way he's forgotten about her and hooked up with Maxine whilst banging on about how she's his true love really annoys me.

Anna had more potential and more could have come from her storyline.

Killing Callum off wasn't neccesary either. He was a decent enough character and could have just left the village instead of being killed with a samurai sword.

Jim, Sam and Anna are the main 3 for me, they had such big potential for their own and future interlinked story lines. Leanne, Texas, Callum, ash and to a degree Danny were also disappointing.

I agree about Sam, and have voted for her in this poll. I shall say more below.

You give indepth reasons concerning several characters. Some of them were killed off before I came back to Hollyoaks. I agree with Sam as she could have had a big part in the Leela, Peri and Cameron connection, the Finn and John Paul trial, and probably other characters' storylines too.

Too tough to pick one:
Ash and Callum were characters I always thought had more potential, the Kane family itself were exciting. Alas after Lacey left they sort of put them to one side and Callum and Martha got shelved almost, and Ash was stuck with Will. After Callum's shocking death I kinda knew that Ash would probably go too. Both characters were great and weren't treated well at all near the end (at least Ash was part of a storyline).

Doug and Leanne I loved, by that point I didn't really want him and Ste together but I wanted Doug to be happy being his own person and I would have rather have had him, Leanne and Dennis (Texas if she was alive) head off to their own lives. I wanted Texas to be happy because of everything that happened with India, Silas, Dodger and Will but of course she was killed though if it was Silas then I probably wouldn't have minded (as long as she pulled him out of the window too!).

Clare was fantastic in 2007 and for her to die straightaway was a huge disappointment. Sam and Danny, I probably would have been fine with just Danny because I never really liked him and Sam seemed to have more potential but easy option kill them both! Anna again, wasted potential, great character that needed more time, Jim, just a plot device at the end which is pretty sad. The others I didn't mind dying really!

Its sad that BKs run this time is a lot more controversial because his original run on Hollyoaks was probably my favourite of all!

For me, the biggest mistake is the number of deaths. When you have so many deaths, the concept of death itself becomes meaningless on the show.

I can't even choose one. The ones that madden me the most are Claire, Texas, Jim, Leanne, Ash, Anna and Sam. None of those characters were done with. Even if they were going to leave, the door should have been left open. Claire and Sam were mid story, and not stories that should have ended in their deaths. Texas' whole exit was ridiculous. If they had to have her leave it should have been totally different. The Will rubbish was just absurd and although she doesn't seem to have been very popular I think Texas deserved much better.

Me too. I absolutely hate the attitude of as soon as a character leaves they never existed, what a load of rubbish. Why bother investing (as audience, writers and actors) in a relationship to just ignore it, act like it never happened, or pretend it was never any big deal. I have no interest in watching Dodger fawning over Maxine and making out he's never loved anyone else, especially when they're not even believably into each other and have little chemistry. I wouldn't want to see him with anyone for several years after what happened to Texas.

A lot of them, the most heartbreaking and pointlness was Jim. Gutted about Sam and Danny. Annoyed about Texas as now both sisters are dead. Claire should have stayed gone and mysterious and Ash and Callum both being killed within one week was just utter tripe!

From that list:

Anna Blake and Clare Devine by a mile, so much mileage in both of them as characters, but no - they were, effectively, reduced to OMG moments instead. That, and Anna's story being all about WIll (even thought she had three other children and a husband - Dirk - that she left for years) and Clare's (ultimately short) return being all about Mercedes instead (because she NEVER has any storylines...), what can I say - pointless, just pointless.

Sam's death comes close behind. Most of us knew it was coming, due to the blatant character assassination that went on for months, but it still doesn't make it any less of a waste - particularly with regards to her involvement in John Paul's storyline. Instead we have Myra being hugely self righteous about it (whilst complaining about Theresa being in prison - that's Theresa, a convicted murderess who Myra knows quite well committed the crime she was convicted for, but hey - it's only murder, eh HO ), even though she's been there for five minutes, rather than Sam who was there from the start.

As for Ash and Callum being killed within a week of each other by different people, well, it may not have been a mistake as such, but it was complete tripe.
