Why not put Doctor Who on at 6:30 and Strictly on after? It clashes with X Factor by half hour anyway who cares.

...you think Strictly should go on 'til 9.15? That wouldn't work for several reasons.

They need to film the results show before a certain time so the audience can get home. 8.30pm is there limit really. Plus if they shoved it any later ITV might elect to simply start The X Factor at the same time which would hurt the viewing figures further.

6:30pm is too early, it's been said many a time before. Why would SCD be concerned by clashing with the Chav Factor? BBC don't rely on advertising revenue like ITV who are the only losers in a ratings battle.

strictly is supposed to be a family show and people watch it with their kids

The X Factor still hurts Strictly's audience. Strictly lost viewers when The X Factor started last week and that was a recorded show for the latter. Strictly's in it's best available slot at the moment when also considering filming the results show.

I'm not sure about the time but I do think Doctor Who and Strictly are being shown in the wrong order.

if they did that then SCD would have to do a live result show (which they should) but if they did then many pupils in our dance school who are younger (6-10 age range) would def not be able to watch it live - when the friday show was on later many of them missed out

I agree with this.

Once the line-up is reduced, we should have a later start time and possibly see the Doctor on first *crosses fingers*

7.30 ish would be about right I think.

My idea of bbc one Saturday nights:
5:40 Strictly Final Rehearshals/Hype Show
6:30 Pointless Celebs
7:20 Doctor Who
8:20 Stricly Come Dancing ( Recorded as-live during pointless and doctor who)
9:50 Casualty
10:30 Any Old Rubbish Comedy Show
11:00 News

No!

Strictly is early evening for me. It always has been. Having it on much later would detract from the "for all the family" image the show likes to portray.

It's on too early for me. Will be at my dance lesson. Leaving that aside, 7:30 would be about right in my view.

IIRC it usually happens this way but once a few couples have been eliminated it will start a bit later. I usually sky plus strictly and X factor and settle down to watch them at about 7.30 ish. That way I can watch at a more convenient time and forward through the crap jokes between dancers and the ad breaks in X factor.

I'd hate that to be honest. I like the idea of a hype show, but not with a two hour gap between that and the main show!

Pointless could be eliminated and doctor who on at 6:30 and strictly live at 7:20

Doctor Who would be on too early then. Plus, the darker feel that S8 has would not suit that earlier time.

And yes, I do watch both programmes.

Pushing the start time back by 45 mins would in no way mean that they would have to do the Results show live.

And as Fudd said earlier 9but was seemingly ignored)

Quote:
“They need to film the results show before a certain time so the audience can get home.”

So a later start, even by 45 mins, would not be feasible for that reason alone

So how does the phone & online voting work so that the results show can be recorded in good time without having the audience hanging around nearly two hours more? indeed, assuming a minimum of 30 mins between phone lines opening and the votes being calculated & checked, would it be fair on the audience for the Results show to be finishing close to 11pm? An audience that would need to catch tubes & trains in order to get home? An audience that takes quite a bit of time to leave the studio, collect their phones etc, and exit the Elstree complex

And bear in mind that the studio & set has to be completely dismantled, lighting rigs taken down & packed away, cables unhooked & stored, scenery taken down etc. All done by riggers & engineers working well into the early hours. Quite possibly adding to costs as well.

The people in here in favour of a later show seem not to have much of a grasp of how TV works.

Sadly, that does seem to be the case.

If it was on any later we wouldn't get the spoiler through until nearly midnight

Like the idea of a rehearsal show on before the main show. More and more Strictly works for me.

I like it being on at this time. When I worked Saturdays I watched it when I got home from work while getting ready, had a few glasses of wine as it went on, then meet friends at a bar when it's over.

Results show is spent nursing a hangover.

If 6.30 is too early for Doctor Who then something has gone badly wrong with Doctor Who!

Doctor Who should/does have a younger audience than Strictly and it's current timeslot is ridiculous.

Admittedly I'm coming more from a Doctor Who is on too late than a Strictly is on too early direction but I think Strictly shouldn't be on for more than 90 minutes anyway.

My line up would be something like:-

6.45pm - Doctor Who
7.30pm - Strictly
9.00pm - Casualty
