I thought he was great, not even that dissimilar from Micheal Moon character wise

enjoy one of his best scenes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CiiVUHlr0ng

Maybe Andy was so unpopular because he came between Kat and Alfie and broke them up for a while.

Do you know I've often wondered this one myself I thought he was a terrific character. Fantastically cruel. It was a dodgy period for the show if I remember rightly but he was a real bright spark back then. The papers were full of sneery references to him being a 'plastic gangster' which held against him but he could be really sinister. You never knew what he would do next which always makes for the most fascinating bad guys. I mean in all of his returns when was the last time Nick Cotton surprised any of us for instance?

I think Andy was great.

The gangster era is frowned upon by the mass populous but for me it was one of the best! I loved Andy, Johnny Allen, Jack Dalton, Den and Dennis, Phil and Grant, Chrissie Watts, Kate Mitchell, Sam as played by Kim Medcalf. For me, that era was the pinnacle.

He was a victim of the media gunning for the gangster element in EastEnders at the time. I agree he was a good character played by a good actor. The scene where he threw Sam Mitchell out on the street was so evil! I enjoyed the mother/son bond he had with Pat. He even left her his house in his will.

Loved Andy Hunter and I loved him and Kat together too. Shame they killed him off.

It's strange because for some reason Andy Hunter came into my mind recently and when I mentioned it to my mum she had absolutely no memory of him despite her watching Eastenders consistently since the beginning. I don't know if that sums up the long term impact he made on the show but I was definitely a fan at the time, he was genuinely threatening in my eyes and was involved in some pretty interesting storylines.

I guess in the end Andy was overshadowed and ultimately fed to Johnny Allen to improve his hard man credibility, I loved Andy's final scene where he was thrown off the bridge onto the motorway. I loved Johnny too so it's not necessarily a bad thing but I wish they'd done more with Andy. I can't personally put him in the same vein as Michael Moon though. But that's because he's my all time favourite :P

It was the best era indeed, I don't know why they went back to the original Sam, I liked the other one.. Shame Mr Grantham had to quit/was axed.

Can you imagine Andy Hunter touching DW's Sam with a barge pole, ulterior motive or not?

I think he'd rather cut off his own bollocks!

Was he the gangster who had a friendship with Pat and left her his house in his will?

I never cared for them as a couple and still don't so that didn't bother me at all really.

He had some generally funny sarcastic lines, The way he slung Sam out in that awful way then casually stuffed his face with cake reminded me of somthing Micheal would have done lol.

yes

Leaving Sam his wedding ring in his will so she could flog it to get her roots done, Sam's face was priceless

Because he's the git who came in between Kat and Alfie!

He was the forerunner to Michael Moon, bitter and twisted!

I actually felt bad for him in all that, He really loved Kat and treated her actually very well, Alfie was the one who took her away from him.

I liked Andy. Jack Dalton was scarier though!

he was a rubbish gangster. he put the frighteners on weaklings like alfie but cowered when faced with actual threats.

he was very attractive though

The actor was brilliant as creepy Eddie Santini in The Bill. My God, that was in 99. Where does the time go?

Never found him convincing as a gangster, once Johnny Allen came in (who was genuinely menacing) it hugely contrasted against Andy and made him look even more unconvincing, yet he was supposed to be a really big time gangster. Billy Murray rang rings around the actor playing Andy.

Andy was always intended to be a sympathetic gangster. He was out and out bad like Jack Dalton or Johnny Allen and instead was more like Dennis. His love for Kat and Pat showed that.
