Why are you comparing him to Barbara? Do you realise he has been at EE since episode 1? It.s very risky to tell your boss what to do as the actor is there to portray what the writer wants.

He knows who Nick Cotton is more than anyone!

I don't see any harm in an actor asking for certain lines to be changed because they don't feel right for the character, John Altman has played Nick Cotton for nearly 30 years, I like the fact that he cares enough to want the character to be true and believable instead of just trotting out the lines and collecting his money!

Who does he think he is? Babs? When she tore up her return episode script in September last year because the writing was awful and improvised?

It would be like Jim Mcdonald coming back and not calling people by their full first name or ending things with so it is etc!

I just think Nick has had his day and i think the 30th Anniversary would be the perfect time to bring to an end his character.”

Phil is and never has been evil.

Then hopefully he'll have learnt how to not make it go so terribly wrong.

Sounds interesting. Looking forward to seeing him back.

How can Nick get any lower? The only way would be actually offing Dot once and for all, and we know that's not gonna happen.

Best return this year I reckon

Maybe not evil, probably the wrong word but he does show sadistic traits at times, he will never change now, whatever age he lives to. I know he was the calmer more sensible Mitchell brother when he first came into the show but i think life experiences have changed him into a darker character and after all he has been through it would be unrealistic for him to change back into the character he was in the early 90's. After all he has been through i think it is quite realistic that he has become angry and bitter with the world.

I wish he wasn't returning.

Not looking forward to it.

I doubt he did it in a diva way

Or in the live episode when Babs didn't think Janine should be called Janine so called her June instead :-p

I think its fair that he has his say.... he knows Nick better than anyone, so how could he play the role well if he's rehersing lines he knows Nick wouldn't say? To a point, the actors need a license to change things if its for the credibility of maintaining the original character as best as they can. Too many characters return and have changed dramatically, so fair play to him for caring about his work. I'm surprised they wrote certain things in differently to be honest, knowing his history....

Exactly this.

I imagine that they encourage those playing established characters to do this and that it happens far more than we know. It's just common sense.

You mean this from 1991:

Part 2

Part 3

After Nick's attempt to kill Dot, I think it would be fitting if he was killed off this time, with Dot being in some way responsible.

I thought Dot/June looked suddenly a lot older during her chat with Ian the other day! Obviously still great for her age. I wonder how much longer she will stay on the show.

If he sinks to a new low then he either kills a pregnant Ronnie, kills his son Charlie or finally kills Dot. It would take a lot to top the other stuff he's done over the last 30 years!

June smokes like a chimney but has stated in the past she takes around 20 nutritional supplements a day, probably the reason why she is still going strong.

People were already bored of the same rehashed Nick storylines during his last stint, when he and his 8-year-old daughter plotted to kill Dot. Holding the café customers hostage with a chair leg was utterly ludicrous. Altman's acting was full-on pantomime too.

A better return storyline this time around could have seen a redeemed Nick dying from a terminal illness and determined to patch up his past mistakes with his Ma. It would have been a fantastic opportunity; with June Brown's advanced age and John Bardon now dead, it would be the only chance we would get for a raw two-hander episode between these EastEnders stalwarts.

But regardless of the circumstances, as soon as he shows his face in the square would'nt he and Charlie be arrested for faking his own death, along with Les Coker who knowingly buried another body ?

Isn't Rainie still knocking about? I remember a scene over a month ago where Phil was handing her money in a doorway - the doorway to the flat Heather lived in when she was murdered.

If Rainie is still around then I can see this pair hooking up and both going down a bad path together. Both have history with drug addiction.
