Levellers - Greatest Hits (2014 Album)
Not posted on here in quite some time, but was quite surprised to see that there was no review for Lev's latest Greatest Hits on DS homepage. Surely they're still relevant enough to report on?
They released their latest Greatest Hits album a couple of weeks back and it's a cracker. They seem to have avoided the well-trod route of just throwing all of their favourites together and have taken the approach of re-recording old tracks and getting guest vocalists on (Frank Turner's cover of 'Julie' is incredible.) 2 Disc album with a DVD that has all of their videos on it for the first time. Tracklisting below. CD 1 1. 15 Years 2. Hope Street 3. What A Beautiful Day 4. Dog Train 5. Belarus 6. The Cholera Well 7. Last Man Alive 8. Truth Is 9. Fantasy 10. Just The One 11. Burn America Burn 12. Before The End 13. Celebrate 14. Bozos 15. Too Real 16. Liberty 17. Beautiful Day (Feat. Imelda May) 18. Julie (Feat. Frank Turner) CD 2 1. One Way 2. Make You Happy 3. This Garden 4. Julie 5. Wild As Angels 6. Come On 7. The Devil Went Down To Georgia 8. Far From Home 9. Together All The Way 10. Exodus (Live) 11. Happy Birthday Revolution 12. Carry Me 13. Outside/Inside 14. World Freak Show 15. The Recruiting Sergeant (War Child Explicit) 16. Just The One (Feat. Bellowhead) 17. Hope Street (Feat. Billy Bragg) They also had an interview and performance on BBC R2 today with Dermot O'Leary (link), which they discuss the new album and why they didn't want the record company just throwing a greatest hits together like they did last time and they perform an acoustic 'Beautiful Day' and a cover of ABBA's 'SOS'. Has anyone heard the album yet? It is a real gem. I am also going to purchase my ticket to see them in Nottingham in November, hoping they don't sell out. Any other thoughts on Lev's welcome too; why they are still so ignored by a lot of the major sites despite them selling out tours regularly, as well as selling out their own festival every year? Thoughts and comments below! |

I've got my copy, a great release and a welcome return. Was great to hear the old stuff, to have all the videos together, and I like most of the new collaborations. I've always been a fan of the Levellers.

Once again a very strange definition of the term "hits"
http://www.officialcharts.com/artist/_/levellers/ Nothing against them having a best of album, or a singles album, most of the songs yo release, whether they were a hit or not, it should be called greates hits. The Red Hot Chilli Peppers had the right idea when they released their first best of album in 1992 and called it 'What Hits?' |
