Mackerel

Anyone else like mackerel?
I watched one of Jamie Olivers 15 minute programs on Friday and he rubbed salt, pepper and ground corriander into slits in the skin and panfried it until crispy.
So i bought a mackerel this morning and just cooked it. Really nice. All the meat just pulled away from the bones.

Yes - unless it's smoked.
Then it just repeats and repeats and....................

But, smoked mackerel makes great pate and is so simple to do.

That looks quite simple to do. Only a few ingredients too which is a bonus.

I've just had some mackerel for my dinner

I usually get the ready to eat smoked mackerel in the vacuum pack........the ones with peppercorns on

I also usually have some of the ring pull tins in the store cupboard........Tesco finest smoked mackerel in a tin is very nice

I've tried grilling them but they don't half stink out the place so I tend to eat them as they are.......

I love really fresh mackerel.

I have been mackerel fishing a few times and the fish tasted delicious just cooked simply in the oven with minimal seasoning, it was beautiful and very meaty I suppose what made a huge difference to the taste that it was so fresh.....I want some now!

Mackerel....straight out of the sea, gutted, bit of salt, a squeeze of lemon then straight on to the Barbie. Melt in the mouth flesh and crispy skin, bit of crusty bread to mop up the juices and a glass of ice cold lager. Cannot beat it!

Yes perfect. I bought mine from a local fisherman who caught it this morning.
The only thing that puts me off cooking whole fish is the bones. Though I only managed to get 1 fish bone in my mouth today.

Mackerel seem to have departed these parts now until next year but a few weeks back there were more than you could catch & eat swimming around within about 1000 metres from me here!

I remember going mackerel fishing for a couple of hours on a boat and bringing home about 30 mackerel. Cleaned, gutted and filleted them all. The dog ate most of the heads. He had the trots for days after

Yep.
Blitz the mackerel meat , butter, some lemon zest and onions to a paste, pack into a ramekin and pour a layer of melted butter on top to preserve in the fridge.
Spread it on crusty bread, thin toast or crackers.
Yum.
Then try the same with livers of different kinds.

You can go even simpler than that - whizz up mackerel, dollop of Philly or double cream, horseradish, lemon juice to any consistency you want. Enjoy.

I like getting the tinned Mackerel in Teriyaki sauce and having it on Cheese biscuits. Yummy.

Now of course I fancy getting whole mackerel with my shopping this week. I love it with peppercorns.

White bread, Mackerel in tomato sauce, mashed up with Worcestershire sauce toasted under the grill.

Well you'll never get a mackerel though a two-inch pipe.
