Did DTC kill the wrong person off?
I always questioned was it right for Lucy to be killed off, as part of the founding family I thought it was really sad that Lucy was the one to get it. I always thought Lucy had potential as a character for the long haul, even though she was often written terribly.
Would DTC been better off killing Roxy, Peter or Lauren? I say these characters because although their standing in the square is strong due to their family ties, I do however always find these characters flat no matter what their storyline is. There death/murder would still have had impact though. Lucy was more diverse, similar to Janine in a way, she could be hard faced, nasty callous and evil but she was also soft, dependable, emotional and vulnerable. |

He wasn't wrong to axe Hetti Bywater's version of Lucy but perhaps a black cab would have been a better way to go about it. That way the character could return played by a better actress.
Lucy as a murder victim was never going to pull at the heartstrings because she was a highly unlikable character. That angle has seriously failed and has been compounded by Ian and Peter coming across exceptionally badly throughout the storyline. I have no sympathy for anyone involved. As a mystery I'm not sure anyone cared enough about Lucy to give a rat's arse who killed her. A more popular character would have maintained interest but even then I wouldn't kill off anyone important for this storyline. It's just not worth it. |

It is right that Lucy's death so far hasn't made as big as effect as the team would have wanted.
Im keen to hear peoples opinions all these months down the line. |

I didn't really care about Lucy when she's alive so why care now she is deceased?

No because so far the storyline has been absolute piss, I just hope it gets better, but it's so boring ATM! Ian and Peter mourn over her (ok perfectly normal, but not entertaining to watch) Keeble and that drip summerhayes constantly visiting Ian, with no developments, etc... I just hope it's better, it's sure better than the rob killed tina on corrie though... Lucy had so much potential but they should of kept Melissa, Hetti was shit! Peter's the more boring twin, he's such a yawn, kill him off someone, please, asif I care about him and Lauren, Zzzz...

I don't know what you made by impact as her death has devastated the beales and brought them back to the heart of the show where they belong.

They could have done exactly the same with Bobby. Explore his coke addiction, secret affair with Max etc.

Story has been used as a long term thread throughout the show in 2014. It is constantly there either high profile or just background. It has spurned other storylines. The key is that it has pulled together a disparate show. It was just a lot of ad hoc groups or individuals with random storylines. Almost everyone is going to fit into this fallout by next February. You had to have a key character like Lucy to achieve this. The fact that Hetti was just not up to being Lucy it was either recast (again) or kill her off.

Sorry I meant in viewers, as in it was also designed to bring back the viewers that Burkwood lost. Yes viewers had increased but not as much as what they expected.

I think they should have killed Peter. Very bland character.

I never liked Hetti as Lucy, so in a sense I'm glad she's dead. They still have Peter, Cindy and Steven to play around with, so it's not like there aren't ways forward for the Beales.

No I never liked the idea of killing her. I always saw it as a short term gain. You have to ask was losing a legacy character really worth it. I think the murder storyline would have worked better if Lauren had been murdered instead. I'm sure they could have managed to get Jo Joyner on a recurring bases for the year.

I would have said yes but Lucy was a terrific character in the weeks leading up to her death, it just showed that when they used the character and actress correctly, she delivered good performances.
I think they should have got rid of Peter instead. He is more likable therefore people would be sadder at him being killed, he isn't a very good character so it wouldn't be a massive loss to the show and I think Hetti Bywater is a much better actor than Ben Hardy as well. The storyline so far has lost a lot of its initial momentum so it is quite boring at the minute but I am sure it will pick up again soon. Not having a suspect at all for such a long time means the story is going nowhere fast. Maybe 10 months was too much of a long time to stretch the story on for. |

No he didn't kill the wrong person
He wanted to do a 'Who Dunnit' and put the Beale's at centre stage for the 30th Anniversary 'Who Killed Peter?' wouldn't work at all, I mean how many enemies has he got? About two? Maybe three? Lucy however, although I loved her character (and was one of few people who actually praised Hetti Bywater before her final weeks onscreen) is the type of character who had enemies, she was able to make enemies easily to Saying this though I don't agree with her getting killed off but I can see why she was chosen over Ian or Peter You should put 'Indifferent' on the poll |

If they had to do a murder story they definitely should have killed Lauren instead. I was always wary of their plan to kill off the last remaining female Beale just so they could have a 'reveal' for the 30th Anniversary, and as the story has progressed it's become pretty clear it wasn't worth it. The story is dull, and the reveal will inevitably be an anti climax. I have no idea why they decided to tell the audience the killer won't be revealed until February- we can now pretty much disregard anything that happens until then as a red herring. A massive strategic error on the producers' behalf.
Hetti's Lucy wasn't great (Melissa was worse), but packing her off in a cab and recasting in a couple of years probably would have been the best option. I've lost all interest in the story, and at the moment it's easy to forget Lucy ever existed. |

I actually really liked Hetti Bywater's Lucy, much preferred her to Melissa Suffield. She allowed the character to mature into a businesswoman while hinting at her past wildchild ways too (something I don't think Melissa Suffield could have managed). I also found her extremely watchable in her last week.
To answer the question, however, no I think she should not have been killed off. I wouldn't have missed Peter. |
