I'm still scratching my head about the motive behind Donny Osmond's appearance last night. I have nothing against him per se and respect his Show Biz credentials. But usually the big name bookings are about ratings and the obsession TV producers have with attracting younger viewers (another thing I don't really get).

Clearly they saw Donny Osmond as a coup and a 'BIG' name and to some of us he is ..sort of.. or at least was. But it occurs to me that you would need to be of a certain age to have heard of him wouldn't you? is he really universally famous and popular?

If you are a poster under say 30 years of age did you actually know who he was? Did any posters under age 30 who don't watch DWTS know who he was?

I mean, I barely limbo under the bar but I knew who he was before I saw him on DWTS. Under 20s maybe not so much...

I had absolutely no clue. Had to ask my mum who just described them as "singing mormon family"

(I'm 20 btw)

28 - yes I knew who he was.

I'm under 30 and i have heard of the name but i had no clue what his claim to fame is. I still don't care enough to look him up tbh. I found him to be irritating and the ratings were down compared to last year's week 3. If he was brought in for ratings....it failed and based on twitter reactions from the younger crowd....they pretty much all hated him and his ridiculous marks/comments

My 17 year old had no idea who he was. I tried to explain he was in a 'boy band' in the 70s. She Googled him and was unimpressed. Teenagers are hard to please these days.

By way of comparison, if they had Frankie Avalon on I'd know who it was.

I'm under 30, and I knew who he was even without DWTS (which he was bloody fantastic on!)

I'm 22 and knew who he was, down to my Mum talking about him from her childhood, and I think most people have heard 'Puppy Love'.

But the core Strictly audience is probably like myself - ladies of an (ahem) "certain age" who adored Donny in their teens and still have an awfully soft spot for him. So it makes sense - particularly if he sings in the results show tonight.

Anyway, I defy ANYONE to watch this and not love him, just a tiny wee bit . . .

I'm 20 and I know he won DWTS because he judged a week last season but had no idea of anything apart from DWTS

I am well over 30 and remember Donny Osmond but still wonder what the point of having him as a guest judge was. Did he add anything substantial, and was it really his place to award the first 10 of the series (deserved or not)?

25 - I knew the name, didn't know why he was famous. Had to Google him.

I think, as a family, the Osmonds are pretty big - perhaps more so in the States than here but I'm sure they tour all over.

But I agree with other posters who don't get why he was booked for this show. His comments were a bit off the pace and so were his generous marks. It seemed as though he was there to butter everyone up and make them feel good, but that's not what this show is about. It also took up a lot more time, having 5 judges who all had a say each time.

The only thing I can think is that in losing one celeb they gain some time and they decided to fill it this way instead of more VT's etc. Personally, I would always prefer to see more of the rehearsal footage of the actual dancing than any of the nonsense of tea parties, Superman stunts on the football field etc,. But I presume they appeal to someone !

I can see that Donny gets to promote his new album and I think he's celebrating a milestone year in the business - but what the show gets out of it, I have no idea., and nobody ever really explained why he was here on Strictly - for a full week before the show, doing press all over - beyond promoting his album.

21, and while I knew of him before DWTS, it was just barely.

It made me laugh that all of the middle aged harpies on Facebook who'd spent the weeks before this series started whinging on about how they'd not heard of most of the can't, were flooding their knickers at the announcement of Donny being a guest judge.

It's just bizarre. I can't understand what the point of him being there was?

This was his biggest hit.

I know of the Osmonds and had seen him have an undeserved win on DWTS. So yes.

He added nothing to the show for me though. It made me want to watch X Factor TBH

24 and yes I knew who he was.

I also know who most of the celebs are or can at least appreciate that just because I don't recognise somebody, it doesn't mean they're not famous. Can't abide people being all "Pixie Lott? Never heard of this so called "celebrity."" I don't watch eastenders and the names Jake Wood and Max Branning meant absolutely nothing to me before the series started but obviously he is a recognisable figure...

I'm 17 and I knew who he was before I saw him dance on dancing with the stars on YouTube.
