Sea buckthorn

We're thinking of foraging for some sea buckthorn so I wondered if anyone had had it, what does it taste like and if anyone had any recipes for it?

Thanks!

Never heard of it, sorry.
Seems to be more of a herbal remedy thing. Found a few recipes for it though.

Thanks! I've found some recipes but just wondered if anyone had tried any and could recommend them.

What prompted you to decide to forage for it?

I read an article in a magazine by Tim Maddams (I think) of River Cottage.

I picked some a few years ago, they were pretty unpleasant raw although I have since read that they should be cooked Didn't experiment any further I'm afraid, so no suggestions for recipes.

Thanks, anyway! It was Tim Maddams and he says there are delicious but it does depend when you pick them. He recommends the beginning of Winter.

It's very sharp, a bit like a strong orangey lemon.

It got a bad rap on GBM.

The few chefs who were country foraggery types swore by it whereas most of the other chef, the judges and the guests thought it was disgusting.

I seem to recall a Ray Mears programme where he was foraging things that our ancestors ate and he wasn't overly keen either.

Thanks! I can already feel my enthusiasm waning! I guess if it was that nice, the berries would be as popular as blackberries.

Yeah, the chefs on GMB seemed to be determined to use it as it was local and foraged even though the other chefs were indicating that it was a bad idea.

I read somewhere when I was looking it up that the berries are supposed to taste like fruit salad sweets.
