iPad touch-screen problem
ThePenkethPedan

My iPad touch-screen is really making life difficult, particularly when I 'm emailing.
I can have typed several paragraphs, with regular use of the top right delete button, when that button without warning turns black in the centre and locks into that format. Everything is then frozen, the keyboard is unresponsive and the only way is to go back to the opening menu screen. This loses the email which I was in the process of writing.
I am wary now of typing longish emails as I fear the 'locking' process occurring.
My questions are: is this a well-known fault, can it be avoided and if so how, and is there any method of unlocking the delete button without losing the material already composed?

It would help to know which app you were in at the time. I assumed it was the normal Mail app, but there's no such thing as a "top right delete button" in "create" mode.

I think OP means the back/delete button top right of the native keyboard. OP, have you tried a hard reset - hold down power and home buttons together until screen goes black, and Apple logo appears. If that doesn't make a difference, try restoring from a backup, or try restoring as a new device.

Quite correct,Testcard- thought that was fairly obvious, really. Doubt if the suggestions will work, but will give 'em a try. I notice that when the button is used it momentarily turns black in the centre- perhaps touching it too rapidly in succession is the cause of the locking/freezing effect? Thanks for the replies.

Button highlighting and turning black in the centre is normal, but I've never come across it freezing before. Are you on iOS8? If so, still quite a few bugs to be fixed - some users, including myself, are experiencing Safari freezing when using a keyboard shortcut. A hard reset is definitely worth trying first.

Hold down power and home buttons together until screen goes black, and Apple logo appears, then release both buttons.

Where is the 'home' button, please? Assuming I have the device with longer sides top and bottom, the power button is top left . Interested to note that another poster is having the same or similar problem. Thank you.

Holding your iPad in the position you've described, the Home button is in the centre of the bezel on the right hand side. It's the round button you press to return to the home screen of your device where your apps are displayed.

I have lost 2 lots of typing because of this problem.
Only since iOS 8 (and still happens on 802).
Never happened in the several months before when my iPad was on iOS 7.x

I bet this will be fixed with iOS 8.1, will have to wait and see....I think 8.1 update is due November.

I hope it will fix the numerous Safari problems with iPad 2.
