I'm a newbie, so please go easy on me if this is obvious or been covered before (I have searched but couldn't find a specific thread/response on this).

I've just purchased the Sony STRDN1050 along with Dali Zensor 1 speaker package with the intention of connecting them to my existing LG TV (42 inch LED from 2012, sorry, can't recall exact model number) and other devices (Blu-ray, SKY, etc).

I can hear the output from the SKY box and Blu-ray (albeit only in stereo from the two front speakers) but there seems to be no output to the TV - it keeps saying no signal, regardless of which HDMI input I use (all cables are Cambridge Audio 514 series). I know there's an easy setup for the receiver, but I obviously can't see it. On reviewing the manuals/help guides (for TV and receiver) both seem to point me to the other device (although the Sony does tend to rely on the Settings function, via Home on the remote, but this of course is only helpful if you can actually see the menus!!).

I've swapped cables around to check I don't have a dodgy one, along with checking direct inputs from device to TV (missing out receiver), but with no success.

Any thoughts/hints/help/pointers to the correct thread would be most appreciated.

How have you got everything connected?

You should have HDMI leads from the Sky box and Blu-Ray player plugged into the HDMI IN sockets on the back of the amp. It doesn't actually matter if you match the label on the socket to the source by the way, all the inputs are identical, though the labels on the socket may match the buttons on the remote.

The TV should be connected to the HDMI out labelled A with ARC above it. If the TV has an HDMI input that is also labelled ARC connect the lead from the amp to that. Otherwise use any input.

Make sure the TV is switched to whichever HDMI input the amp is plugged into. Unlike SCART it may not auto switch to that input. What happens if you plug the Sky box or Blu-Ray directly to the TV can you get anything that way?

If a direct connection from Sky/Blu-Ray does not work and you are sure the TV is correctly switched to the right input then either the HDMI section of the telly is shot or the leads you have got are dodgy.

A friend (who is more tech savvy than me) and I checked the connections and yes:

- I have the source devices plugged into the HDMI inputs in the receiver (correct labels, but not absolutely necessary as you say)
- The connection to TV is from the HDMI A ARC output on the receiver to the HDMI 1 ARC input
- The TV usually connects automatically to whichever input is active, but to make sure, I have specifically selected HDMI 1 (and others when I've tried to see if the HDMI 1 input is the problem). It still says "no signal".
- I can connect all devices directly to the TV and they work (hence why I was able to watch Homeland last night!)

From what I can establish, everything is working that I can test. The only thing is the HDMI A ARC output from the receiver (although I've tried the others as well i.e. B and Zone 2, and they don't make a difference).

All I could gather from other forums/comments is that my TV may not fully recognise the output from the Receiver, but I've no way of checking this it would seem.

I wonder if the Sony outputs the menus on the Composite Video output (yellow phono socket labelled Monitor Out)? If it does then that might be an option to at least see how the thing is set up.

Trouble is I can't find anything remotely resembling a full user manual for the beast online. Just some next to useless PDFs with lots of pretty pictures and sod all information about how the thing actually works. There is a sort of HTML manual as well but again it doesn't really tell me much.

But maybe just try a lead from the Composite out of the amp to a Composite in on the TV. Don't need a "proper" video lead, any old phono to phono lead will do for this. Just to see if the menus can be accessed.

Though in theory the TV and amp should negotiate over HDMI what the capabilities of each are and select a format both can handle. Then again theory and reality are sometimes not on speaking terms with each other

If it doesn't output the menus over Composite then it might be a tad difficult to set the thing up if the HDMI is outputting some format the TV can't handle! Always assuming it is working in the first place, though even if you plug it into a different telly there is no guarantee it won't have the same trouble as yours so you might not know if it's the Sony or the TV that's the problem!

You can check amp settings even without a TV connection, press 'amp menu' and you can cycle through the various menus via the amps display window.

Double check the upscaling is not defaulted to 4k, I came across this the other day on another amp, it would not display jot until it was switched off - just a thought.

The 'Easy Setup' is referring to speaker/network settings, I doubt it would help with your current issue.

For anyone interested, this has been resolved. A technician from Richer Sounds popped round, tried a few options then did a factory reset on the receiver (pressing the Speakers and Power simultaneously I think). On the new power up, the receiver went straight to the Easy Setup screen and connected with the TV.

[As a side note, we paused a program last night and the receiver went into Auto Standby mode. On waking it up, it failed to connect to the TV again, but this time I only needed to turn everything off and on again. I will raise this as a possible issue but for the time being have turned off the Auto Standby mode]
