Not watched YF yet but quite a weak opening episode I thought
First episodes are often a little underwhelming because we don't know the candidates but this one especially, felt like a decent candidate was fired as well
A bit like bake off, I think it would be cool if they didn't fire anyone until after episode 2

Well, it was a mistake from both of them. As Lord Sugar said about leaving the house without your keys, but in this case the keys where in the pocket of her PM.
Trust me, as a financial person myself, it is obviously a mistake from yourself but if your leader or PM does not bother to remind or help you out then the mistake is always made (teamwork and all).
Will be interesting to see if Roisin is PM in the near future and if Sarah in that case is on her team.

Hmm, I thought he managed the organisation of his team and the early part of the task well, but he should have shown stronger leadership in (a) staying on top of the sub-team and (b) not allowing Robert to waste so much time buying ingredients.
It was clear that the team had set two top priorities - add value to the sausages and the t-shirts. Towards the end of the task when Felipe is talking to Chiles on the phone he had the opportunity to put his foot down and say "No, the t-shirts are more important than your potato appointment. Do the t-shirts first." He didn't.
That's not to say he was a weak PM - he looked much better than Sarah - but when it came to critical business decisions rather than project management I thought he was poor.

An afterthought on Shoreditch. Robert may not be aware that Lord Sugar was born and brought up round there and it was one of the poorest and most deprived parts of London. My grandparents were from the East End so I know what I'm talking about. Calling it "edgy" would not have impressed Sugar.

Wasn't Helen Milligan a PA too?
The term PA can cover a pretty wide range of jobs, from a low-level admin assistant to a quite senior position. If you're the PA to the MD of a large company, you genuinely are a pretty important person - it's not unusual for high flyers to be made a senior director's PA for a year or two as part of a fast-track programme, as you get to know all the senior people and get a glimpse of the inner workings of a business.
I agree Sarah was rubbish but I wouldn't damn her on the basis of a job title.

I agree my grandparents were born and bred in Shoreditch. They struggled to survive and they did not eat guacamole filled hot dogs. They worked hard went without and struggled to feed their ten children.

If you read the Evening Standard or the Sunday Times, they are always talking up the old East End areas of Shoreditch, Hoxton and the like as 'edgy', 'arty' and 'hipster'.

That's not the point. Sugar (like me) would probably still think of Shoreditch as it was, not as it may be now.
Havent got the time to read through the thread at the moment , but so glad its back.
Feels like years since it was on , been far too long.A great opening episode compared to the ones from the last few series. I think it will be a great series.
Steven is brilliant - annoying but hilarious. I dont think he will go too far but while he is in it we are in for a treat. I was cracking up at him numerous times especially his head shaking during the boardroom.

I thought the same as well, I liked how he put in place how discussions was going to run instead of the free-for-all scrambles they tended to be. But he seemed content to blame the whole failure down to Steven which, from any angle you look at the circumstances, was a clearly a cop out. It was only after Sugar stated the failure was down to how the hot dogs were needlessly tarted up and neglecting the t-shirts for potatoes was when he changed his mind as to who caused it.

Sugar should be well aware that the Shoreditch area is awash with Hipsters and edginess - the Art task in series 3 was set around there (Hoxton), the stall to store task last year was in Shoreditch and in series 8 the "Vintage" task saw the candidates selling tat to hipsters for silly money in Brick Lane - echoing the Harry Enfield "I saw you coming" sketches wonderfully!

All true - about 20 years ago I knew someone who was PA to someone really senior in one of the big banks, and even back then he was on something like £120k a year and flew all over the world overseeing various projects...
(Of course I also know PAs for whom picking up dry-cleaning is the highlight of their day...)

According to Stephen Fry on QI the other week there actually are penguin colonies in the arctic as people have brought them as pets and they've escaped/been released into the wild.
