Are the ratings down? I thought as a percentage share they were comfortably up?

The ratings are up (Lol I check them every week ) from the prior week; We beat the X factor ONCE again but compared to week 3 from last year we are down; This week we managed to make 8 and half million peaking at 9.02 million Whereas last year at this exact time we made 9 and half million peaking at 10 million & up

Source the ratings thread

All in all the ratings for SCD from last year were so much better (which I find quite surprising ; I thought this season the ratings would have been muchhhhh better ) ; Again, I know because I check the Ratings thread every week ; But on an important note, we still beat the X-Factor

So James is actually right when he says that compared to last year, the ratings are down.

The " stats talk " from last week show and endless comparisons as usual between SCD & the X factor , BBC vs ITV shows start at page 62 http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showt...015486&page=63 and goes on and on....I must say its a fascinating place on DS

But over night ratings, in sheer number terms, are down across the board. So far this year, I think only Bake Off has bucked the trend. Downton Abbey is shipping viewers left, right and centre.

There has been a big shift in the way people watch programmes, and this is affecting just about everything. The things that seem more important these days are the actual percentage of the viewers who tune in at the time of airing - as opposed to numbers - and the consolidated figures where things like time shift and such are added in.

Do you know if the actual viewer percentage is significantly down?

Im just going to quote it :

BBC 1
15:50: The Great British Bake Off Final - 915k (8.9%)
17:40: Pointless - 4.30m (27.1%)
18:30: Strictly Come Dancing - 8.65m (39.2%)
* Peak - 9.32m (40.8%) at 19:55
20:35: Doctor Who - 5.08m (22.1%)
21:25: National Lottery Draws - 2.90m (13.1%)
21:35: Casualty - 4.33m (21.5%)
22:25: BBC News - 3.45m (20.7%)
22:45: Mrs Brown’s Boys - 2.67m (19.3%)

and

Year-on-year comparisons (inc +1)
SCD: -1.17m (-11.9%), -3.9 share points (-9.0%)
TXF: -0.44m (-5.4%), -1.3 share points (-3.8%)

Week-on-week comparisons (inc +1)
SCD: -0.41m (-4.5%), -4.1 share points (-9.5%)
TXF: +0.34m (+4.6%), +1.1 share points (+3.4%)

So it was slightly down......Source once again the Ratings thread with actual STATS

http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showt...015486&page=65

Yes our results shows are doing very well this year compared to Last year and the X factor ; Last year, we managed to beat X factor in the ratings on the actual shows every week but usually lost a bit on the results show but this year it is not the case

So, just slightly down on the overnights in line with just about every other programe and still waiting for the consolidated figures?
I don't think James needs to fret too much
(Have to remember as well that the X-Factor stats are going to include the +1 figures which Strictly doesn't have)

Yes and here are the consolidated figures

Saturday 4th October 2014 - Consolidated
Strictly Come Dancing - 9.93m (43.9%)
The X Factor - 8.16m (31.2%) / 8.63m (33.0%)
Doctor Who - 6.91m (26.6%)
Casualty - 5.75m (25.6%)

Can't say I'm missing Artem or James. And I'm certainly not missing Bruce.

I did like James ( though am fed up of his mouthing off, he could make his point far more effectively without the rudeness )

However, I dont miss Artem one bit, never enjoyed watching him...and am deliriously happy that BF has gone...

Do James Jordan really think that Strictly's ratings success was down to him and his bland choreography?

Ebola is spreading because James Jordan isn't in west Africa.
ISIS are a threat because James Jordan isn't in the middle east.

So James it's time to change into super Douche and save the world

The ratings are really interesting but I think they have to be seen in context. The X Factor has brought back Cowell and Cole at huge expense and Strictly has lost its main host - theoretically X Factor should be stomping all over Strictly this year in the ratings if that's what mattered.

Aside from the FACT that he is totally deluded, this is selfish behaviour, he's going to get his wife fired.
I can't wait to see James' reaction when he hears that in next season, the fragrant and lovely Ola is going to be partnering Gary Busey...

Aggs, I think if your argument is "all tv shows are down across the board due to changes in how people watch tv" and not "Strictly is slowly losing ratings because people are getting bored of it due to lowered quality" then Downton Abbey probably isn't the best companion example, given that the only reason to watch that any more is to laugh at how awful it is now.

FWIW, The Apprentice is up on last year so far (albeit one episode in), IIRC The Voice was up substantially this year, and Great British Bake-Off shows that a reality tv audience is there. IMO I think hand-waving off losing between 500,000 and 1,000,000 viewers year-on-year is a mistake. They should have used Bruce leaving as an opportunity to relaunch the show and give it a fresh lick of paint. Instead the only thing that's changed is that it's now fronted by a charisma vacuum.

James seems to be denying it all on Twitter:

I love how people believe everything they read in the papers 🙊
Only the small minded people though.
The others know I support strictly!

In my defense, I've never actually watched so much of an episode of Downton Abbey - was mainly going on my focus group (ok mum and auntie) who now record to watch later.

Interesting that he's slagging off Mark's dance when his Pro partner is Karen. Must just be a co-incidence that she was the one that fell out with Ola last year then!

Just please disappear Jordan!

I would love to see this happen.
Gary doing all the judges heads in,talking about nimble vagrants dancing in the vortex of the mind. then his pants fall down and Ola feints.

Do you know what I don't understand? Why is James gets so much hassle for tweeting his opinions like loads of the other former pros do/have done?

The other pros did not make comments that were all sweetness and light, but they didn't get the flak James gets. And the stuff in the media was discussed on here at great length at the weekend (when he said most of it), it's not 'news'.

He really has been turned into this the AW or JS of this series, which is ironic because he was vocally against both of them. It's not like he's taking a load of rubbish all the time. He's even slagged off when he's right.

I like James and get that he's acting out because Ola was offered a celeb this year and he wasn't (remember he was NOT sacked from the show, he chose not to stay and take part in the pro dances), but I really wish he had not done CBB (no, I don't watch it) because all it's done is make some people even more likely to believe everything they read in the media.

And as for needing to earn his keep, James will have been paid many more times for doing CBB than the amount Ola gets doing the show. I think eight years on SCD has made them household names, he's not tweeting to stay in the public eye.

I like James even on CBB I stuck up for him, I also don't mind the tweets because its his account and he can say what he wants and I usually agree with him, but in this interview with closer he has over stepped the mark.

As for the ratings being down, all ratings for all shows are down because people use iplayer etc more than they ever did, Strictly still has great figures and is very popular the way James is talking you would think it had lost half its audience.

A lot of people just love to paint him as a villain here and I agree with everything you said .
