Foxsat HDR - diseqc - Can't record and watch another channel.
Hi, for some reason I can't record a freesat channel and watch another freesat channel.
Setup: 2 lbns on same dish 1 pointing at 28.2E and the other at 19.2E, a cable from each goes into a diseqc switch and one cable from that to tuner 1 on foxsat. Another cable comes direct from the 28.2E lnb to tuner 2 on foxsat. Antenna Settings: Fixed Two cable different The diseqc settings are tuner 1 a28.2 b19.2 tuner 2 28.2 diseqc disabled. Freesat scan and non freesat scan find all the right channels but when set to freesat mode and I'm recording a channel you can't change to any channel that isn't on same transponder. Should it be possible? As a test I removed the tuner 1 cable and did a freesat scan but it recieved no channels even though signal strength was 90 quality 100. A non freesat scan finds all the channels. What's that all about? Cheers. |

Have you swapped the cable from LNB 2 input on the Humax to LNB 1 input and tried a scan? If so did that find any channels? That would prove you have a working LNB and cable.
If you don't get any channels then that implies a cable or LNB fault. As you know the cable from the LNB to the Diseqc switch works try swapping that to the LNB ouput the direct feed is connected to and put the direct feed cable on the LNB ouput the Diseqc switch was on. Then connect the Humax back up and see what happens. If the feed from the Diseqc switch still has signal from the LNB then you know the LNB is OK. If the direct feed still has no signal then suspect the cable. And if the Diseqc switch now has no signal but the direct feed does then suspect the LNB output. |

Thanks for the reply.
I tried direct feed cable on tuner 1 and it found all channels with freesat scan. Diseqc cable on on tuner 2 with other cable unplugged has the same result as before no channels found for freesat scan but all channels found for non freesat scan. So I think for freesat to work a cable has to be in tuner 1 input. I tried changing the satellite settings to 2 cables the same, it won't scan the 19.2 channels then though even when selecting the correct cable and satellite but freesat scans and works fine (record one, watch another) So I think once the humax box is changed to 2 cables different the freesat record one watch another functionality is disabled. Would adding an additional cable from the 28.2 LNB to the Diseqc switch work? I'll make one up anyway and try it tomorrow. Cheers. |

The basic setup requires a single diseqc with a 28.2 and 19.2 input on tuner 1 in and a second feed from 28.2 to tuner 2 in. You are correct that to set up freesat you need a 28.2 input on tuner 1, correctly setup that doesn't mean it can't also have a 19.2E input. If you don't provide a 28.2E input to a single diseqc there's no way the Foxsat can access 28.2 from tuner 1 so nothing will work (including overnight housekeeping). Did you know that the Custom Firmware Channel Editor package lets you add NON-freesat channels to be usable in freesat mode (and also set up manual timer reservations) ? Assuming the above works then you would have to manually spot clashing 19.2/28.2 recording reservations. I doubt the firmware can spot these other than in real time. I can't personally vouch that the above works except the use of non-freesat channels in freesat mode and the manual recording capability. |

Well I've tried it with the switch (28.2+19.2) on tuner 1 and and also on tuner 2, tried different outputs on the LBN's, rescanned freesat + non freesat for each satellite on both tuners about 10 times now and no matter what setup I try I can't watch another freesat channel whilst recording, even in non freesat mode. Watching a 19.2 channel whilst recording a freesat channel works fine.
I suppose I could buy another switch like you say and have 28.2 + 19.2 on each tuner then I could change the humax setting back to 2 cables the same and that should hopefully get it working properly. I might give Raydon's custom firmware a try as well. Thanks for all the help. |

Well I've finally sorted it.
I did a factory reset which must change how it detects everything. Should of tried that before but wasn't sure if it erased the hard drive (it doesn't) but it does remove any programmes setup to record. After the reset it said dual cable and signal detected on Diseqc A, I entered postcode and it found all freesat channels. Then I entered the secret menu and kept TWO CABLES THE SAME, selected the 19.2 sat and set it as Diseqc B and saved it, then done a manual scan for that satellite. Before the factory reset scanning the 19.2 sat on Diseqc B with two cables set the same it would just pick up channels from 28.2 but now it finds the correct channels. So recording and watching a different channel woks as it should now
