So it is all right to say "theres no other tablet which can match the Ipad " but not to give some of the actual reality ?
All have defects, and matching the iPad is not a great move for me.

Between the Nexus 9 and iPad Air and the Hudl 2, I'd say the Hudl 2 looks the best all round if you don't need gaming graphics. 1080p is near perfect, those minor resolution changes being much a negative.

However, I think the iPad and 9 are better gaming devices if thats your thing.

I've got a number of tablets, including the Hudl 2 and for the money (£129) I am struggling to see how the extra performance can be worth SOOO much more.

Okay, so there's no LTE version. The Hudl 2 is merely full HD, and the camera is pretty sucky (but, hey, NOBODY should take photos or video with a tablet!). But £70 will get you 128GB of storage, and total up to under £200 - and that's before you redeem any Tesco Clubcard points you might have.

So, it's not a 64 bit processor. It doesn't have a killer GPU, but it's not slow. It has the latest OS, a promise of Android L, and 2GB of RAM. It's quick, has dual-band Wi-Fi and the IPS screen is surprisingly good - better than you might expect on more expensive tablets.

Devices like the Hudl 2 or the Moto G really do show up some flagship devices as being somewhat overpriced. Especially when a lot of people won't ever take full advantage of that extra CPU and GPU power.

I appreciate that this is the iPad Air 2 thread, but my comments apply just as much to any Samsung tablet, and the Nexus 9. YES THEY ARE ALL BETTER TABLETS, but sufficiently better for the far higher price?

I think that's something you can say without being accused of being a troll.

Apple has defined the tablet market the way the ipod has. I have to be honest and say I've not heard many people happy with Amazon tablets or Galaxy ones. It's always "like an ipad but not an ipad". I think with the sales of the 6 phone and Samsungs slower sales Apple is close to defining the phone market too. At the low end everybody now almost has a 5C.

It's not a bad thing but I'm no Mac fan but I feel it's starting to looks better option than Windows shame it's so expensive. I see a lot of people using Mac Book airs these days.

I don't know anyone with an Android tablet (or come to think of it, a Windows tablet) that has ever said 'Like an iPad but not an iPad'. Why would they? It's a different OS for a start.

Sounds like someone has taken the line from the VW Golf ads and modified it, then started to believe it as fact. Either that or there are some strange people out there. I don't compare any Android tablet directly with an iPad, but certainly do with other Android tablets.

Finally, I know the 5c is now starting to sell, but there's no way that everyone 'almost' has a 5C at the low end. At the low end, you'll have a range of (mostly crappy admittedly) Samsung's, entry level Lumias, the Moto G and many more. And the 5c sitting amongst them, almost certainly in the minority for the foreseeable future.

Anyway, despite my obvious anti-Apple bias, as soon as I can find out if Apple has the 5K iMac in its stores to look at, I'm heading off to check it out - and expect that by the weekend I'll have ordered an i5 16GB 3TB Fusion Drive model. Because that's what people who supposedly hate Apple do!

There is a lot of software out there for everything, Macs included.
Windows, the high maintenance OS is an obstacle unto itself.

iPads have a high premium price market share but a very low share of budget market.
The thing is, at the premium end, user requirements are often less, premium price buyers being more likely to fix things with an upgrade in 12 months..

I think Tesco have a discount on £20 off tablets? That would be £180 for an Ipad mini 1. I think this year the Ipad mini 1 will tap into some of the budget market as for a little extra they can get a quality tablet.

That is the one where last year people want to,but are not allowed to go back to IOS 6 because of the paltry 512MB of Ram.

Apple never really allow you to revert back to the old IOS though on any Ipad/phone/ipod.

The Hudl 2 only supports 32Gb memory cards according to the spec sheet.

As for this iPad, can't get excited. It's last years model, with an almost imperceptible thinness difference, a touch ID reader and supposedly beefed up graphics. I wonder if its still only got 1Gb of RAM? Meh.

2GB RAM looks likely. May eventually do split screen multi tasking in IOS9 Ipad Air 1 might not support that ..or Apple may hold the feature back for the Pro model..we will see.

Seems odd to say that in the specs, as I've got an old Samsung 64GB card in it that works fine. I suspect it supports micro SDXC properly so takes 128GB cards and also 256 and 512GB once they come out.

The trick is not to update your iOS in the first place!

So it's last year's model, apart from the new case, new CPU/GPU, new camera and TouchID.

It's the mini that is virtually unchanged.

It simply means you have to format the 64GB or 128GB card from exFat to Fat 32 in a PC using Sdformatter, fat32formatter or any utility that allows big partitions.

Nope... Sorry.... Still can't get excited. It looks the same feels the same and operates the same as its always done. I don't take pictures with a tablet anyway (I always think WHY?! when I see people doing that). A fingerprint reader that didn't work about once out of every five goes when I had an iPhone. Will anyone even notice that its a few grammes lighter?

2 gigs of RAM, which will improve it no end. And a new processor.

Agreed, 2Gb of RAM will help a lot (well depending on how much extra RAM iOS8 demands). Has this actually been confirmed though?! It's taken them long enough - no wonder its one spec they don't usually publish.

Its a moot point anyway for me as work is buying me a Lenovo Yoga (with 8Gb of RAM) so thats taking care of any tablet needs I may have.

As said, it's a poor way to justify an upgrade, as I can't believe for one second that an iPad would suddenly break in such a short time. My iPad 2 is still doing just fine, if somewhat slow these days.

Or, wait, was it you trolling me and seeking to get me banned? Ah, yes. That'll be it.”

I acknowledge your point jonmorris.
How old is your iPad 2.
And usage in that time?
Thanks.
Never occurred to me you could be trolling.

There were leaked pictures from two sources showing 2 gigs of RAM. So there's a good chance it has.

I had an ipad 2 briefly, kept getting models with bad backlight bleeding so got a refund in the end. It's got a rubbish screen, you really notice the difference with the later models.

I've owned every Ipad other than the Ipad 4 and I just ordered a 64GB model as the 16GB lacks space. Was just going to stick with the Air but the extra space and 2GB ram might be a good selling point..I may hold onto this Ipad 2 years like I done with my Ipad 3rd generation.

For me 64GB for the price of last years 32GB seems a decent deal. Pics can take upto 10GB if you take loads on your Iphone so I feel 16GB is not enough and I get bored deleting apps and games.

New Geekbench processor benchmarks show Apple's triple core, 64-bit A8X Application Processor is dramatically faster than the latest Android tablets, despite their additional cores and faster clock rates.

According to figures published by GSMArena, Nexus 9 turns in scores (added below) that are much better in single core but only slightly better in multiple core benchmarks than the original Tegra K1 Shield Tablet. Its single core performance is similar to iPad Air 2 but its multiple core CPU performance is beat by the A8X iPad Air 2 by 34.8 percent.

Compared to Samsung's own Exynos 5420 Octa Application Processor, used in its Galaxy Tab S 10.5 introduced alongside the Shield Tablet this summer, Apple's iPad Air 2 is 69.5 percent faster in multiple core tasks (again with three cores to the Exynos' 4 active cores or 8 advertised cores) and 104 percent faster in single core tasks, even clocked significantly slower and with 2GB rather than 3GB of RAM.
