Doctor Who companion poll with an actual poll!

Someone recently did a so called 'definitive' poll of Doctor Who companions but didnt ad them as a poll to the thread so I am doing the job for them!

The first 37 are ones that people always say are companions, the next 17 are ones that are debated, but are considered companions by some people but not others.

The poll was in the link of that thread, so this thread should probably be forgotten.

Thank you for making it multiple choice!

I felt it deserved having that ability as we most likely all have more than one favourite.

I see the 7/8 that have so far been rated the highest are nearly all new who and even the one classic who person rated high was brought back for new who

I don't think it will be forgotten with 22 voters so far it should do well.

She helped liberate my people from the Borad. I'd say more but the totality of the story isn't very good.

Sorry the list I was working from obviously pre dates the new series, as it also misses Courtney (disruptive influence, or not now), so at some point there will have to be a new poll, but not for a few months at least!

Pink isn't a companion. His only time in the Tardis has ended up with him being properly turfed out for being an insufferable idiot.

I would rather watch a show just about Donna than about the Doctor.

She polarises, but not evenly. I think the fans are in the overwhelming majority.

Can't believe Martha has got more than rose. Maybe people think rose at the end was just overkill

I'd have liked to have seen the inclusion of Sally Sparrow. Thought she was great in Blink and had lots of potential.

Go, Wilf, go!

I liked the fact that Donna wasn't Doctor crazy like every single other long-term female companion that he has had in the current revival. I just wish that she would have come with a volume control. She was always way too loud.

Abomination

This is a very extensive list of course...personally I see people who travel with the Doctor regularly (i.e. Rose, Martha, Donna, Jack, Amy, Rory, Clara and River) as 'companions' whilst all the others would be 'assistants'.

My favourite companion is still Donna. She was superbly acted and diverse..could switch from comedy to raw emotional drama in one scene to the next. Her exit was tragic, but in its own way that made it memorable. My only problem was the false sense of significance about her character ahead of The End of Time which turned out to be a red herring - I liked that she got a slightly happier ending than before that didn't contradict, but it was such a tease.

Clara has quickly become my second favourite companion, pushing Rose into third and Martha into fourth. Clara just has an energy and optimism that I usually don't like in a character as it makes them quite shallow, but Jenna Coleman seems so naturally like that that I just love it. It meant that come scenes that pack a more emotional punch, it's much more unsettling and out of a comfort zone that makes for real drama.

In terms of the 'assistants' I have soft spots for both Jackie and Wilf in particular. Adelaide Brooke is also fantastic as a one-off but don't think she would have worked as any more than that.
River is kind of her own thing, a bit more companion than assistant I'd say, but I love her too. Let down a bit by a disappointing plotline in Series 6 and just a few too many catchphrases that turned both her and Eleven into walking caricatures, but I love her character all the same and it's always a treat seeing her back.

I agree. In my opinion she is by far the best new Who companion. It's too bad though that she only got one series and had to have other companions horning in on her episodes. I would have loved it if she had had at least 2 series with just her and the Doctor with Wilf appearing in some of the episodes also.

Interestingly, Rose always seems to come first on polls of viewers more generally (for example, any Radio Times 'favourite companion' poll).

I think it is something to do with so many Who fans disliking the whole romance aspect of her relationship with the Doctor.

I agree.

Also think general public polls like the Radio Times do not favour the Classic series as a lot of people voting won't have seen it. At least with fan polls the percentage of people voting who have seen both versions should be higher.
