Don't know if anyone saw the 'Ask a Pro' on It Take Two tonight, but a friend on mine sent in the question regarding the Tumble Turn. He wanted to know the mans footwork for this figure, really referring to the 3rd step. (the right foot)
Him and his wife and my wife and I all hire a hall to practice in and he mentioned to me that he has trouble dancing the tumble turn, I said I was ok with it. When he showed me I noticed he wasn't crossing the right foot in front of the left foot on that 3rd step. His been told by his teacher to close the right foot to the left and has asked other teachers and they have all said the same, one saying its like a small chasse. I only cross because I've picked it up from watching Marcus Hilton on youtube and find it so much easier. When the question was asked tonight, Aljaz crossed on that 3rd step. So is there a reason why the pro's seem to cross but the teachers teach it as a close. |

Hello in here lovely thread. I wanted to let you know that Spin Turn has left the forum (cancelled her account and everything). Not sure entirely why but I'm guessing the final straw will have been yet another-nuther-nuther-nuther example of the general ability of DS to run crazy -- beyond the confines of this thread, of course.
Going to miss her!

I used to use 'ignore' a lot until deciding it was a better karmic workout to withstand all the irritations and buffetings. When I opened my ignore cage doors, the sky was black with fleeing ghouls

Hope Spinny enjoys SCD better without all the forum palaver ![]() head, torso, hips Kaboom-TISH Done it. New slippy shoes helps as well. Sometimes I think it is easier to learn from someone only just a bit better than yourself than an expert dancer who does it so quickly and effortlessly that you miss it all. |

I have never seen or heard of it as a "close". The description of "cross" ( although this is not actually a cross) is correct.

Thank you Jennifer, how would one describe this step in the tumble turn because I have no idea and refer to it as a cross all the time.

I love this figure.
Its amazes me that two male dancers I know, both from the same school, a very reputable school, have given up doing the tumble turn as their just can't do it. I don't intend to name the school but will ask my mate to ask his teacher again to go over the figure with him. Thanks again for your help. |

That's a shame. She once "had a go" at me for disagreeing with something she said about a certain technique, but we cyber-hugged and made up via private message. But it made me wonder if perhaps she takes things a little too much to heart? Hopefully she will change her mind and come back.

What a shame, I'll miss Spin Turn too (*waves* if you are out there, enjoy the series and hope you'll be back someday!)
Did anyone see ITT today? Just at the end of Zoe and Ian's bit, I think they were talking about Jake, and there was a bit that puzzled me. They were talking about the man's head position and direction of gaze and referred to "in promenade" and not so. What does this mean, please, and what does that imply for head position? Loved Ian saying that pros can/do/should under dance to make the celebs look better. I fact. ITT has been fabulous lately with far more dance content than usual! I'm so glad they're keeping Ask the Pros and I always love Ian's section. Have been trying to avoid the pro-bashing elements, but it does seem to me that Jake's technique is not progressing as much as I suspect it could have if he'd been with, say, Nat or Aliona... Anyone else feel the same, or not? |

Anyone else feel the same, or not? sorry to hear about spin turn I took Ian to mean the content of a routine Not the pros over dancing in fact went back and looked at it and he was referring to putting less content in - we all have different taste I actually like the 'full on' pros like Kev and Pasha There is no doubt that Janette does not have the technical expertise of some of the pros and really dont know if he would have progressed any more with other pros - I have never been a fan of Aliona's routines even when she won |

Anyone else feel the same, or not? I am thinking of submitting my question about spotting in VW to them. I asked it a few pages back (post 234) and Henry answered. I was hoping for an answer from someone who actually dances ballroom. If that sounds niggly, my apologies, it is supposed to be a hint not a moan ![]()

But she has to choreograph an amateur SCD dance not a pro dance. Probably easier for her having learnt recently than for a seasoned ballroom pro.

Hey it would great to get a technical analysis of the dances when the dross is eliminated and the numbers fall. Maybe start in a couple of weeks. Perhaps people could remind us of their specialist dance skills. Don't be shy.

I am not a specialist in anything really - I have been around dancing all my life with my parents when young when they competed teaching alongside them for many many years and being on the comp scene when my brother competed (in the era of Ian and Tony ) and then running the school with my brother when parents retired - although qualiffied in ballroom and latin - my expertise was in freestyle and hip hop at which I have juged all over thne country and where I met Len !!! But I have been around the comp scene for years and know many many competitors and think I know a good dance from bad one and of course have learnt the tech side of the dances
