While ballroom dancers should have their weight slightly forward, it is emphasised that the backside must be tucked under at all times. (Have a try - It's very easy to do - until you start to move!!!) The majority of ballroom steps for male dancers lead with the heel, (heel drag for the lady), and their feet should brush softly across the floor. [Jennifer - as a ballroom expert, if you disagree, please correct!]
Latin dancers have their weight further forward and dance using the ball of the foot, with a lot of pressure going into the floor. This alters the posture completely, and makes the backside look larger than a ballroom dancers. So you are right about the different postures, but neither of those postures are wrong; just different for the 2 different styles of dance.! And the fact is, someone who has specialised for years as a Latin dancer, is unlikely to be able to develop a ballroom posture at the drop of a hat - oh that it was that easy! Agree with your comments re adopting both styles of dance, I so admire good 10 dancers, so difficult to swap from one discipline to the other and dance to a high standard |

Could someone please help identify the following steps in Kellie's samba, assuming they are recognisable samba steps? Thanks in advance. Link is at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ase...ature=youtu.be
The steps are at the following times in the video: 1) 0:48 2) 0:50 3) 1:02 to 1:06 4) 1:11 to 1:14 |

also thought the last one could almost be a boto fogo done backwards if that makes sense
![]() I wish youtube had a slow motion player. I used to be in a group dance which had batucadas and forward and backward botafogos. I've come to the conclusion I didn't really visualise how it should look to someone in the audience. Instead I thought about applying technique and how it felt as I did it! Visualising steps (third party view) as you learn them is actually something lots of people probably don't do. |

BIB it does. Click on the cog icon (first one bottom right) select Speed and then you can choose 0.5 or 0.25 (ie half the speed or a quarter of the speed).
One of the many things I have learnt from this forum.

What I am interested in is how the positioning of the lady's head and upper body has originated in ballroom dances. Was it just about overall appearance of the couple or was there some subtle socio-political stuff about dominance and submission to go along with "man as leader of the dance" going on as well?

It worked like a charm. Although I tried it first on a clip of Camilla and Jame's Tango to Mein Herr. But instead of re-checking your post for the actual instructions I went from memory. I remembered 2 so selected 2.0 instead of what you suggested .25. The result is very comical.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_oRCckVzeI No rush for the address I have to produce a first born yet. I will get onto it this weekend. ![]() Delivery in say 10 months OK?

Try this www.technipages.com/play-video-in-slow-motion-on-iphone-ipad
I don't have an iPad, so I can't test to see if it works. . Unfortunately there's no fast forward option either! (there might be in the desktop version, but I can't seem to force mine to show that and it defaults to the YT app). Grr.

Marinamau's suggestion works on ipad if you use puffin browser rather than safari. Quote:

![]() https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xn_0HTJaWjc And if you go back earlier still it is much more hunched together. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=pgv_9RZ0ETE So I suspect it has evolved as women have become more athletic and flexible, the idea being to accentuate the vase shape. Past ballroom dancers who were particularly flexible, such as Anne Lewis, were probably influential |

Just about every thread on the front page tonight is an outburst about how wrong the judges got their marking. According to these 'armchair experts', just about everyone was either horrendously undermarked or overmarked.
I'd be interested to hear an assessment of tonight's performances from the regulars in this thread, who actually know what they are talking about. |

Yes Kaycee you are quite right re your Ballroom points. Although it amounts to exactly the same thing, I prefer to think of releasing the toes ( whilst bringing the heel through).
