I would say, always shave. You would need to shave for Ballroom absolutely, but especially for AT...just my opinion though.
Women I have asked have said "Depends on the woman" or such like. Only one other said "Yes, shave." |

I'm interested in what people think of the waltz in the Q/F and S/F stage....and even earlier.
Pixie, Caroline, Frankie and Jake are going to get this dance at this stage and it's not a challenge. For an amateur the waltz and quickstep are the first dances learnt The footwork is basic so I want a more challenging ballroom at the latter stages. Everyone goes 'ooh' but I'd rather the waltz be banned and let's see the more difficult foxtrot done. |

Probably someone like Kaycee would be more qualified to comment on Latin, but in my view, bearing in mind she is a beginner, I thought it was lovely. I thought the choreography was fitting to the song and she danced it well. Lovely lines and beautiful arms. For improvement, she needs to relax into the floor more, more foot pressure needed.
However. I felt the long dress covered a few "sins"! Knees were often bent, but her biggest problem was weak feet. In rumba and chacha it is essential to apply pressure to the floor through the feet and ankles; it is this pressure along with straightening the knees that creates a natural hip movement, which Pixie lacked. We always say you know when you are dancing rumba correctly when you wear holes on the inside of your shoes through to the floor. |

I thought Pixie performed a lovely dance, full of feeling and emotion, without in any way being "sexy" - something so unnecessarily bandied about on Strictly.

It can certainly be very easy to learn waltz and quickstep sufficiently to get round the room at a social dance, but to take either/both to a high level is far more difficult.

Agree, although turning it around on its head, I don't like to see Foxtrot danced too early as it is difficult to do even the basic steps.
But yes, so much to learn. There is no such thing as an easy dance. For example maybe Jake can show in his Quickstep some of the lightness and movement that was missing in his Waltz. |

One of the judges (Darcey?) suggested to someone (can't remember who) that he should watch some professional dancers to get a feel for the dances (or some thing like that). I would go further to suggest all the celebs should get on Youtube are look up the basic routines danced by the top dancers - i.e. Mark & Karen's waltz; Yulia & Riccardo's rumba, etc. Nothing beats actually seeing how a dance should look. |

I can't make up my mind about Janette. I am not a fan of her dancing but she seems to be giving Jake routines that play to his acting strengths, so she definitely has a feel for entertainment but I worry that the lack of technique may serve him ill in the end, which is a shame because I'd really like a genuine beginner to do well. |

I shave in the evening before dancing particularly my right cheek.
Are women indifferent to a bit of 7 O'Clock rough? Do they prefer a "manly" rough cheek? Should I bother shaving? I wouldn't want to waste my time. ![]()

I think it would be useful to go to a real comp with or without the pro. I have, in the past, seen celebs at the RAH Internationals, which are timed perfectly being in October, but not recently. Also good tickets are even harder to come by nowadays.
The reason to go is to set their sights firmly on the look they want to achieve and to get an idea of the sheer power, volume, movement etc. All these should be visible without understanding how you get them. I take my friend who is a non dancer and partially sighted and she can see it. Many people do not realise what real ballroom and latin dancing looks like. They have only seen Strictly. They should not be aiming to dance like Alesha, Kara, Harry, Etc. They should want to dance like Katusha, Arunas, Joanne, Michael etc. If there is one thing that winds me up it is when Strictly celebs appear in lists of "best dancers ever". Re: Janette and Jake. I feel like one of the few people not won over. I didn't get his waltz at all. It was stiff and fkat. Music is no excuse. BUT, I do like him and think he has great potential and so want him to do well. |

Re shaving. My dance teacher doesn't aways shave when not competing and it doesn't bother me, but we dance ballroom, with heads apart. And also it isn't usually just one day (just got out of bed) stubble either.
However AT is very close and intimate, but I think there are things I would worry about more such as general hygiene! .t. I had an AT teacher who would get annoyed with one pupil for having garlicky food or curry before lessons

I had an AT teacher who would get annoyed with one pupil for having garlicky food or curry before lessonsI always carry a mouth spray along with a shoe horn with my tango shoes - and an electric razor if not going from home. I go very easy on the after-shave though. I have a professionally trained nose and can smell women during ovulation and from a distance. I smell marijuana on the streets on London nearly every day. I certainly know when followers haven't had a shower that day. Moderate natural human odours can be quite attractive and even erotic though. ![]() ![]() If i detect food on the breath I will at a suitable break after a tanda discuss food and happen to mention the dish the woman has just had. Quite a funny reaction. "As it happens, I have just ... " |

On cheeks, any dances where the cheek-to-cheek is left cheek and against left cheek? I must try in in AT. Might be good to watch out for obstacles.

For us, its a matter of image. My partner is always clean shaven and wears trousers, shirt and tie. Just a habit as we have dressed the part for a long time. I will always wear proper ballroom clothing, I wouldn't feel comfortable not doing so. |

I will always wear proper ballroom clothing, I wouldn't feel comfortable not doing so. But I would feel scruffy if I have not shaved in the morning. And usually shave in the evening before going out and when working in an office have had a small electric shaver in my desk for that purpose. Dressing the part helps me have an appropriate confident persona for a dance - including polished shoes. [I've been an old fogey since my late teens and haven't worn jeans or a T-Shirt since then] But of course if I am due to meet Our Pet, I'll be sure to avoid shaving for a good few days .... |
