It depends if the conviction has been "spent". Where I work all criminal matters have to be disclosed as long as they haven't been spent.

So if a child abuser should always be barred from working with children shouldn't somebody who has attacked people in pubs twice be barred from pubs?

I think that's one of the reasons that love is so special. You don't sit down and calculate things. One minute your spending time chatting with somebody who's company you like and the next minute .....

I'm not entirely sure, I think it would depend on the circumstances. Possibly, possibly not.

I believe ASBOs that ban a person from all drinking establishments in a particular city can actually be given out, though it's usually only done in extreme circumstances. In most one-off incidents it's probably enough for a person to be banned from just the pub where the incident took place.

Yeah, the law usually wouldn't need to put that sort of restriction on a person after a one-off incident. It'd just be the landlord or manager that makes that decision, although some pubs employ bouncers from third-party companies, and a particularly bad incident would probably see you banned from every pub that said company provides security for.

Why? It's not like the show has shied away from recruiting controversial contestants before. Remember this?

Chesterfield is an odd place - its quite small and insular so there will often be long running feuds going on but relatively few places to socialise so there's often a lot of tension and bad blood on a night out.
I used to work in Chesterfield (though never lived there) and on Monday morning there'd always be tales from my workmates of what had kicked off over the weekend. Usually of the "well, his cousin cheated on my sisters mate and they were being leary" stuff.
The victims in this case may have been entirely innocent, but then again there may well have been history behind his actions.

I usually think the majority of them are muppets , but for some reason this guy struck me as particularly unlikeable , thought it was some irrational prejudice initially then lo and behold this story comes out .

I agree. He was acting like a right d*ckhead in Ep2 and then you had the exchange at the end.

In some scenes he was being verbally aggressively and the like. Not very likeable at all.

I don't know why everybody's jumping on this as if he killed somebody. Firstly, it's the Daily Mail. Yeah, he punched the guy. But none of us were there and NONE of us knew the circumstances behind it.

The paper leads us to believe that it was because a guy was 'talking to his girlfriend' but that could easily be spun from 'harassing', especially assuming the 'source' who leaked this was the person who was beaten up. Every year a candidate gets picked as a negative personality for the tabloids and this year its James.

Judge him for his credentials and for his actions on the show not for something 5 years ago, especially when you have no idea exactly what happened to bring it on in the first place just what has been written by some Daily Fail journalist.

He is the type to go into this programme just for the fame. A market stall version of Beckham.
