Definitely. They're very different characters, I can easily see Elaine becoming landlady of the Vic and Babe working in the kitchen.

On the night that Shirley shot Phil and she was hiding out round at Babe's house, I got the impression she might be Shirley's real mother. She was definitely hiding something!
I really hope they explore Babe. I want to know what made her so bitter and why she is the person that she is.
I was thinking about this yesterday and while I love everything about Babe's character (except her accent that can sometimes sound very put on at times), but apart from her accent there has always been something that doesn't quite fit.
I think it's her relationships with the members of the Carter clan. The fact that she is Sylvie's sister is all too much and hard to believe. Had she been the Heather to Sylvie's Shirley and just more of a friend to the family as opposed to an actual member her existence would be easier to swallow. - in my opinion.

They both are good characters in their own right and have a place on the show. Right now though, it makes more sense for Elaine to recur, character wise.
A slight side comment here but I think it's the first time in a while where parents from both sides of a couples family have been represented. I think the last time we had that was with Stacey and Bradley or Syed and Christian.

I did think about that...I think Pat and Carol were the last two mother/-in-laws.
