She had so many chances to tell people last week...

Is this going to be strung along until Xmas or something? Despite Kellie's good acting, I feel that this has already run as far as it can run without something coming out.

Has DTC not learned from the Beale Case that long-running story arcs don't work because nobody cares?

Jesus Christ mate have you really not nothing better to do than make deliberately 'controversial' threads to attempt to piss people off? Get a life!

Telling people somthing like that isn't exactly easy you know.

Essentially, in the Walford time frame, she was raped no longer than a week ago. She doesn't want to hurt her family, part of her is blaming herself and she's gone through an awful ordeal.

I think this storyline is brilliant.

But it's the same as being bullied (bullying is not as serious though). If you don't report it, it will happen again and again.

I was once bullied at work by my manager, and I never reported him or particularly stood up to him. He carried on bullying for 2 more years until I left with a mental breakdown.

I am watching Linda and feel the same kind of pain. She had her opportunity to do something about it, and that time has now passed. It will only get worse for her from this moment on.

From a viewer perspective, this storyline will run and run and as many people on this forum are now writing, they are getting bored with seeing her on screen 95% of the time.

bib1 isn't it??? thats news to me.
bib2 sorry to hear that

Linda probably feels like you trapped and alone. Probably thinks no one will believe her, her mum already thinks she is having an affair with him, if thats your own mum thinking that what chance has she got with everyone else believing her. It is sad but people with power always think they can do what they like its a sad fact of life.

I just wish it would go into the background for a while (make linda appear not as often or just feature less scenes with her in it per episode. It's not like most other stories have to pause for all of last week. As a linda hater, I can only stand her in small doses. She's just one of the characters I just can't warm to. I know she's not in atleast 1 episode next week!

I wouldnt say Linda is annoying at all. This storyline is frustrating, in the sense that I want Linda to tell someone just so she has someone to talk to because seeing her suffer alone is heartbreaking. Annoying? No.
I totally get why it's playing out like this though and with each week I feel more and more sorry for her, and the more I'm looking forward to Dean getting his comeuppance, so the more I'm looking forward to the reveal.
Linda is scared of what Mick will do once the truth is revealed. She's scared of what it could do to her family. I understand why she hasn't spoken up yet.

No Linda is not annoying OP . Linda is scared and frightened . She is hurt , angry , desperate , anxious and lonely

Oh yes, a rape victim that won't tell anyone is SOOOOOO annoying! Jeez, did you expect her to instantly run down stairs and tell everyone what happened? Even in the real world it doesn't work like that, there's a great deal of emotion that comes with being raped. You don't even need to be a rape victim to know that.

Also, this is a soap. They have to make an actual storyline out of it. If Linda revealed all tomorrow and it came to a close, then what? That would be far too quick of a story. I know all soaps have a bad habit of drawing things out too long, but no matter how long things are always drawn out, the reveal is always satisfying enough to justify the lengthiness.

This is actually a very good suggestion.

I have just posted elsewhere that the trouble with this is EE want it all. They want to show every detail of the aftermath but they also obviously want to control when the reveal comes out. So you have Linda in full on breakdown mode and then all the usual soap devices like interrupting, speaking over, misunderstandings going on in order to prevent the reveal. I hate this type of bull normally but can just about cope when it's the usual 'I slept with so an so' reveal but when it's a rape and acted so brilliantly by Linda it just doesn't work

OP: I feel your frustration and the way this story is going appears to be panning out like so many other EE storylines...taking forever!

But.... in 'real life' it sometimes takes years (or never) for someone like Linda to talk about her experience, so on this basis, the storyline is more accurate than having Linda tell someone what happened to her in the first few days.
But yeah...it is a little frustrating
Linda's acting is good though.

No no no, it is not. They did that in Hollyoaks with John Paul's rape storyline and it completely backfired.

It's been realistic. Yes we've seen people interrupt her or speak over her, but we've also seen her bottle it when she has had a chance. She doesn't know how her family is going to react, she doesn't know if she'll be believed and she probably feels that Mick will never look at her the same again.

That was awful because similarly to Linda John Paul couldn't bring himself to do anything about it and then ended up punching a pupil and got sent to jail himself

I am not advocating that route for Linda.

I just find it frustrating when stories go round and round in circles. I know it sounds harsh but we know it isn't revealed until Christmas time anyway so every time she 'almost' says something, you know she isn't going too.

I think we're all pretty seasoned in soap tricks of the trade so we know it won't spill out til Xmas and that everything til then is just teasing the audience so it loses some impact.

Having said that in real life many women don't tell until years later so its perfectly realistic and true to life.

The reason Linda hasn't told anybody about it is because she's scared about what Mick would do to Dean, this has been said MULTIPLE times in interviews and I can get why you wouldn't want to admit yourself as a rape victim quickly

Of course many women don't report rape in real life but that is not because they are waiting to make a dramatic reveal around Christmas time.

It needs to go into the background for a while, I am so fed up with watching The Carter Show.

Ultimately all the stories conform to soap cliche: Xmas day shocks, invincible accident prone Phil, forgetful Sharon, irresistible Max etc.

From Monday Ronnie, Charlie and Dot, and Kat and Alfie take centre stage.

I know and that's the point I'm making. This story line is no more realistic than the rest but a little harder to palate considering the issue.
