Samsung 24inch smart tv apps
(I posted this in another part of the forum but maybe here would be better as I've had no replies there.)
I've just bought the Samsung LT24D390SW/XU and was told twice before I bought it by Samsung (I rang again to check as I wasn't sure the first person knew what they were talking about!) that it had all the catch up services I wanted; BBCiplayer, 4OD, ITVplayer and Demand5. So I was expecting them to be installed already but they weren't and they're not in the available apps. On advice from Samsung I have updated the firmware and they have even accessed my TV remotely to see if they could find them. After this failing they told me to contact the companies directly to check that they are compatible. ITV Player say it's not compatible, 4OD say it should be and Demand5 don't work weekends it seems! :/ Does anyone else have this TV? I bought it from Currys but am pretty disappointed, and whilst Currys themselves didn't tell me for definite all those apps were available I feel that Samsung have miss -sold it to me so not sure what to do now, and advice?! Thanks. Update: Samsung say they'll give me an RA number so I can return it to Currys, (so then I'll be back to square 1 of looking for a 24 inch smart TV) but I'd rather not if I can sort out the problem so any advice would be appreciated! |

If Samsung don't or can't provide apps to do what you want then there is nothing you can do with the TV alone to make any difference. It is extremely unlikely that there is any way to load a third party app (even if one were available) onto the TV, it simply isn't designed to work that way.
So the only options are replacing the TV with one that does have the apps you want or use a separate streaming device to add the facilities missing on the TV. There are things like the Roku range that may do the job for example. |

Samsung LT24D390SW/XU
I too have just bought this TV from Currys. I have 3 other Samsung Smart TV's all of which are 2011 / 2012 models and have the full compliment of catchup TV services and Plex, which I use a great deal.
I am currently using a Chromecast Dongle to overcome the short fall, but I am hopeful Smart Hub apps will appear in due course as the TV is quite a new model. My gripe is the support available for this TV on the Samsung web site. It does not seem to be a recognised model apart from a rather blank page with a handbook and firmware download. Has anyone been successful in emailing Samsung for more information on this model? |

Now I know there are PC Monitors with tuners built in but most of the one's I've seen the manuals concentrate on the PC monitor aspect. Similarly TVs that can be connected to a PC tend to concentrate on the TV side of things. |

If it's a smart tv then it should have internet access which,in turn, should give you access to all the catch-up services.

Just to let you know the LT24D390SW now has a full compliment of catchup TV apps and the very use Plex app (if you run a media server that is!)
It is a new model by Samsung and it has taken a bit of time to catch up (no pun intended). Now it's time to find the bugs in the apps...... |

Yep pleased to say it now has all the catch up services. However have found ITVplayer to be rather slow and sometimes doesn't load at all so have to try later. Haven't yet tried 5OD.
In reply to spearce8; I haven't attempted to use it as a monitor myself so can't comment on how good I would be. However as a TV I have been somewhat disappointed; it doesn't appear to have a search function in the guide which my Linsar did and I found to be useful, also I find the delay (again this is worse that the Linsar) when you switch channels or press the info button to be rather irritating but then maybe I am quite impatient! Also did really want a TV that could record to USB so you can pause which is very handy, but couldn't find 24 inch one with all catch up services and that did that. I was at first not too impressed with the picture quality but either I've got used to I or was just being too picky initially. I don't find the remote to be very user friendly as the buttons that you use most often aren't directly next to each other which is rather a bad oversight for Samsung. I haven't used the web browser that much but it is easier than previous one to navigate without a keyboard (haven't tried to looking weather there are any compatible ones yet) and seems reasonably quick. So generally as I said initially not massively impressed but having said all that it is I think a nice looking TV and for the price (I see Currys currently have it £50 cheaper than I paid!) generally a good buy for the features it has. By the way, thanks for the message Ian. I see I can't reply but I've only just seen it.
