I really think there is favourtism in the music choices for each couple as some are getting great song that suit their dance while others are just given terrible choices each week.

Blame the producers.

The desperation to "Beat X Factor" has made this series quality drop dramatically. Donny Osmond guest judges and rearrangement of songs etc. Really disappointed with BBC and the series this year

Out of interest, which ones do you think are great and which ones do you think are terrible? I'd really appreciate people who know more about music than I do telling me.

Pixie Lott has been given good song choices.

Taylor Swifts new single. Beauty and the Best. Some of the best song choices as they're memorable.

Don't know more than anyone else re music but from a dance teachers viewpoint -
this week

Charleston
Varsity Drag auhentic 1920's charleston
Crash Bang Wallop - just not Charleston

Samba
iyiyiyiyi - perfect samba and using a band version (Edmundo Ross)
That's the way I like it - as a samba iffy at best

Reasonable
(have these on dance cd's but will depend on arrangement)

Im still standing - but will depend on band playing it right
Daydream beliver as above need to be slowed down
Somebody to Love - have many versions of this as VW
It's my Party - slowed down is reasonable cha cha

most of the rest are iffy and find the tango for Alison odd

Well I'd like to kick whoever chose Tommy Steele to EVER have a song featured in the show right in the shin.

The music choices are on the whole, totally sh!t this year. Even worse than last year I dare say.

music is a conundrum but wish they would not pick good for some and poor for others the paso's are the worst - paso must be spanish music it just does not work for me without it

Agreed. I don't particularly like that you can tell the producer's aims for the narrative of certain celebrity's time on the show just by looking at their song choices these days. But instead of traditional music, it's now top 40 popular music that's there instead. I'd rather have dances that don't feel shoehorned in to match an inappropriate song, well known or not.

I think Frankie and Kevin's song is terrible but think they will still do well.

Love Live and Let Die for a Paso and Somebody to Love for a VW. I have no problem with the Tommy Steele song as it is perfect for a Charleston. The only problem I have with Anyone Who Had a Heart is that I see it as a Dionne Warwick song and not bloody Cilla. I guess they are going to be pushing the Liverpool angle with Sunetra. If I was going to do a samba to KC and the Sunshine Band I'd go for Give It Up and not That's the Way I Like It which is just horribly cheesy.

They rest of the choices are just used too often or a bit twee. I'm a bit tired of cutesy foxtrots instead of Fred and Ginger ones.

Live and Let Die was already used for Darren & Letitia's Paso in Series 5.

Hate when they reuse songs of iconic dances. Jill and Darren's jive shall be playing in my head while Jake and Janette do their quickstep.

Flash Bang Wallop's a fine Charleston. Just because it wasn't released in the 'Charleston era', that doesn't make it unsuitable for the dance.

Despite my irrational dislike of Tommy Steele, I agree. However it makes for an extremely high energy Charleston so I'm worried of that consequence in regards to the undanceable one.

the tempo is not Charleston - the band would have to alter it and have no faith of that the half a six pence version is not a Charleston in the form it is in - I often use music not traditional for a dance but I least ensure the tempo is right

Interested to see this Charleston. Not because I think it'll be fabulous but I want to see what Scott and Jenny have come up with for an older adult beginner

Both are experienced with teaching new dancers and with authentic choreo (you may recognise Scott from his recent Dragons Den appearance) and Jenny is Ryan Francois' former partner, Ryan did the Cola Charleston and Patrick's last year so Jenny has something to prove!
