Review The Soaps: Right Now

I feel like we're due another one of these. I sometimes feel that certain threads can sway opinions that may not necessarily be reflective of the wider audience (definitely not a criticism, just an observation) so I thought I would make a very clean, fair thread in which all of the soaps can be judged without any sway.

What do you like, what do you dislike about each of the soaps that you watch at the moment? Who's doing the best, who needs to improve? What are you looking forward to as we lead up to Christmas?

Please reply - I think should be a really interesting thread. And I'll give it a little bump in the morning if it needs it.

EastEnders & Neighbours are the best for me.

I only watch EastEnders, so I can't compare. it had a great start to the year, followed by a weak summer, but Linda's s/l marks the beginning of a terrific Autumn/Winter.

Only watch EE. Overall its good but I feel some of the writing is very inconsistent and doesn't ring true.

EastEnders has had some really good stuff happening in it, but...

The cast is a bit meh though, there's SO many new characters, I think a lot are boring and should be axed! I think the Carters appear way too much! I'd like to see them have some little scenes now just behind the bar serving for everyday normal scenes, which is another thing the show lacks, and emmerdale and corrie have! Scenes with 2 major characters having a drink or a simple conversation in the vic! Or the cafe or somewhere else, just a simple quick 20-30 second convo for realism! Everything is far too depressing and gloomy ATM, and even depressing for EastEnders! There should be a mixture of gloom and warmth, not Loraine newmans warmth though ffs! That was AWFUL, there's also some real cringe moments and everything all too loved up! Max and Emma, Nancy and Dexter and Lauren and Peter are all really boring! Also, the younger cast are used way too much, some of them need to be axed! And stuff like magical bingo night and karaoke night need to be stopped!

^take away all then faults and I'd be happy!:P

But we have seen some amazing stuff aswell, which is why the show is the best it's been since 2010/2011! Linda's rape, and the Sharon, Phil and Shirley stuff were AMAZING! Also, Peggy's brief return was great, and I'm glad Ronnie and Stacey are back now! There's some really good things like Ronnie and Charlie and Nicks return aswell! I'm excited for Janes return so that should be good! I know it says review the soap ATM, but the winter was really good with Carol's cancer, Stacey's return, Lucy being killed, the Carter's were much better! And other stuff going on! It took a bit of a break in the summer but ohwell, all in all they've done some really good stuff this year! We're getting actual storylines and I do think the shows going somewhere, but I just wish they'd get rid of the faults I listed, and do some realistic scenes like everyday normal life (dot in the launderette etc...) they did it all the time in the 80's, 90's and early 00's when soaps were at their best!

Emmerdale has been really good, and has made up for their poor February - July! Some of their scenes are really boring though!

Corrie has been woeful, but has been really good with Peter's trial this week! However, I can't see it lasting!

Couldn't give a shit about who killed Lucy, Linda is getting on my nerves,

Just get Kyle into a a rehab quickly doing my head in.

Dough and his blog annoys me, but apart from that emmerdale is my fav just now.

Some very good writers and some very bad writers

Therefore

Some very good episodes and some VERY bad ones

Coronation street - poor cast, lots of poor acting, storylines going round in circles, dreadful episodes and it's just very dull at the moment. Too many affairs. There's a few good episodes occasionally but other than that awful.
Hollyoaks - bad actors being shoved down our throats, over the top unrealistic plots happening all the time, no aftermath, too many affairs and lots of awful storylines.
There can be the very good week when the really good storylines are on with the really good actors, and really good writing. Like the rape trial and the week when the rape was revealed.

So effectively eastenders would have the following cast at present if no new characters were introduced:-

Ian Beale
Sharon Mitchell (tho she would probably be beale not mitchell as there would be no mitchells)
Tracy the barmaid

Dot wasnt an original but joined soon after so lets include her to make up the no's

I think Eastenders and Emmerdale are both really good at present, my only changes would be to emmerdale and they would be declan would of killed charity and robert would not be recast and brought back as part of lawrences family. I just think the character should be new.

Hollyoaks has just lot the plot lately, that being said I am looking forward to the stunts.
