I tried listening to some of his show today. Mistake!

Not when I was listening I'm afraid.

Yes that seems so delusional. Maybe because the audience stood up he thought it must be good, which would show he has never watched the show before. That made him seem painfully unaware and arrogant, but then many times he has said he is struggling and that his dancing isn't bad. I think he knows he is bad but he doesn't like hearing it and doesn't like criticism or something. Who knows?

What does he say about the show on radio 1?

this would be my guess, a sort of dystopian nightmare where he finds himself suddenly and bewilderingly at odds with the dominant zeitgeist (aka what everyone thinks and believes ie, that strictly is really great fun fun fun)...

but he can't burst the bubble or fight the machine and so he has to pretend he's enjoying it and ask for votes. its like stockholm syndrome but worse, you actually hate it but you have to pretend you love it.

thats why he looks so furious whilst he begs for votes, the last thing he wants.

Excuse me for quoting part of these posts, but they echo my points.

We don't know what's happening in the training room and what the relationship between Scott and Joanne is like. Maybe Scott is overly sensitive about his lack of success, maybe intentionally or not Joanne is giving him the wrong impression. Maybe they don't gel well. We just don't know. We do know the judges - Craig in particular - are not being very encouraging towards Scott. I feel sorry for him because he doesn't seem to get it - the dancing or the show.

Just like my local postman who, to be fair, does plod up and down the road with a certain amount of grace, unlike this 'celeb'.

surely he must have watched himself back............ I really dont understand why he would think that he is good - unless everyone is lying to him and telling he is good......... there is such a thing as constructive criticisum, which clearly no-one is giving him if he really does believe the he is good........

its very clear that he is struggling, no one can deny that, his dancing is bad - everyone can see that (apart from him apparently) maybe Jo needs to really, really simplfy her choreography or something

I actually felt quite sorry for him on ITT last night.
He knows that he's no good ( he said so himself ) but he is putting in the training hours.
I think he suffers from a lack of natural ability and rhythm combined with intense nerves/ stage fright on the live shows which make his dances seem even worse than they probably are.

It will become more and more obvious as the other 'duffers' are eliminated ( assuming he is not eliminated first).

Well I listened today & he is constantly plugging away at Strictly so will probably get the votes to stay in for at least another week, possibly more.

I agree. It may have to as a complete shock to him just how little natural ability he has (a colleague. maybe Zoe, did say he never danced when he went out anywhere, do did he already know or not?), but I think definitely he's trying his best and it must be soul destroying to not hear much encouragement on a Saturday night. That said, he did say he was loving the experience.

I don't know enough about choreography to judge if Joanne is doing a good job of maximising his limited skill level. I know she's won awards for teaching, but how often does she come across someone like Scott or someone who doesn't improve under her teaching style? Like them or not, she needs to resort to some of the tactics the other pros have used with a duffer i.e. non-technical stuff that can look good to the viewers and fill the time. Giving him a full routine of technical choreography it too hard for him at the moment.

Yes this! I love Scott's show and have listened to him for more years than I care to remember. Listening to Fearne Cotton today chat with Chris and Scott about Strictly, teasing him about his crab costume, and encouraging listeners to dress up as crabs and send in their halloween photos just put it all in perspective for me. Radio 1 DJs do a great job but they don't always take themselves too seriously.

Scott is incredibly professional as a DJ.

He has no rhythm whatsoever. He's a DJ and we assume he's a DJ because he 'gets' music. So why can't he hear the beat - at all?

I think it is possible to "get" music but not be able to make your body do the right thing.

Well my singing teacher has said that she thinks I'm very musical (not boasting, I'm still in a pretty beginner-y place) but I am rather clumsy, was embarrassingly useless in school sports and was utterly hopeless when I've attempted to dance.

So from my own experience, I believe you can feel the music in your head but not be able to translate it into the required motor movements.

He deserves the pain; asking for it in fact. I'm going to enable his suffering by voting for him. I like watching a train wreck.

First time I remember we've had such an unlikable character playing the fool on strictly. His value to the show is his suffering and nothing more. Long may it continue.

I don't think it can be assumed that Scott wants out. It is quite possible to want to do something but not enjoy it in practice. Maybe he hopes each time will be better. Nerves can take a performance down several levels. It is quite possible that Scott watches his performance back on video and attributes quite a lot of the issues to that. He may be thinking that if he can get that sorted then it would be quite good. He would then definitiely feel that the judges were not helping and would be quite hostile to them.

If so, I can understand some of this. It is difficult to be objective one's dancing. It's something you have to learn to be, based on experience.

i certainly don't understand some of the very negative and personal comments about Joanne. I think if she had been longer on the show she might have better experience of wht works and what doesn't and so her choreography might be better, but she and Scott seem to have a good relationship and she's supportive.

I have a feeling a lot of Scott's votes come from this sort of thinking.

I hope he does an adequate dance this week and manages to mask his unhappiness - then there will be less reason for this sort of voting and he can go.

How about a slow waltz to "Please Release Me" ?

As others have mentioned new female pros get criticised all too easily on here, Natalie, Aliona, Karen, Janette all had what Joanne is getting now when they first appeared.

Scott and Joanne remind me so much of Craig Kelly and Flavia, but there was barely a word of criticism here for an established popular pro like Flavia.

I really like Joanne and think she's going to prove a great addition to Strictly long term.

Well, I'm going to vote for Judy in the hope that she'll get more votes than him and he'll be in the dance off with the judges sending him home.

Apart from thinking he should have gone after Gregg and before Jennifer and Tim, I don't want to see someone looking like he did when there was just him and Tim left standing and then saying to Claudia that he thought he was going to be sick at that point. Let him be sick and then go. Only a masochist would put themselves through that and then say how much they're enjoying it and wanting to carry on.

Please no-one vote for him. I'm suffering watching him make such a mess of things and I want to enjoy it. He's ruining the show for me.

Probably because with Craig and Flavia it was vice versa Flavia was the one looking for the escape hatch and Craig was banging on about Blackpool.

Scott knows he not much cop, but while people are spending money on keeping him in then he has to keep up the fun, fun, fun, we all love it facade.

I think Scott and Joanne are in a vicious circle. She has to appear super positive and confident with him in training to coax him out and try and counteract his nerves. He gets the can't dance, never going to dance critique which makes him more nervous and unsure so Joanne has to be super super positive and reassuring. It must be so tiring for both of them.

Watching ITT the other night I got a bad vibe from Scott, like he thinks he is better than he is and its not fair that he is being scored low
