Len Shouldn't Get So Bothered About The Audience Booing......

He always seems to take the audience booing his comments so personally but why does he? The audience boo anything that they don't consider nice and or positive, they aren't just singling him out so he should just carry on with his views of the dances without pausing and taking a whole bunch of offence and stop wasting time too!

Based on last night they've definitely started scripting those "audience boos, Len bites back" bits in. They were too stilted, pat and rehearsed for me to buy it as Len's genuine reaction any more. They actually might have been doing it for a while given the increasing regularity, so maybe Len's a better actor than I've given him credit for up til now.

He smiles and loves it when the audience boo Craig which they do after every comment.

the audience booing has worn very thin what do they expect great comments and tens across the board from day one? without the negatives and constructive critique no one would ever improve, the pantomime booing adds nothing to the show, it actually detracts from it.

yes, I would not put it past the producers to have set up those exchanges

Agreed, it needs to be stopped

I also hate all audience participation during the dance too - can't even clap their hands in sync. And all those undeserved Standing O's over the years...

There's always booing in every good pantomime, it's part of the audience participation.
Why should this one be any different?

But he doesn't over-react to it.

I don't think it's an act with Len, he just thinks as "senior judge" he should be afforded more respect.

"Respect" for anyone in a pantomime is pretty thin on the ground.

I get bothered when the audience boo at every single negative remark a judge makes. It is beyond tedious. Do you have to leave your intelligence at the door when you go in? Fools!

Agree completely with that.

I share your frustration on the audience and their silly demands and ways.

As you say, the audience boo anything they don't think is nice and/or positive. But just because Len interacts with the audience doesn't mean he takes the booing personally, or taking a "whole bunch of offence". Believe me, you would know it if he did!

He either does take it personally or acts it because the producers want a bit of reaction from him to the audience and to Craig when he tells them like it is.

I mean look at what he was saying last night as an example "I'm an old man, why pick on me" or words to that effect.

It's just like the pantomime booing of the baddies.

He's probably disappointed if Craig gets booed more than he does.

It's all part of the act.

It's supposed to happen to Craig, not him, the fountain of wisdom.

The producers may well tell him they want a bit of reaction. But the "I'm an old man....." remark was not made by someone annoyed/angry/upset or whatever. I've heard him say that many times over the past 20-odd years when kids have been teasing him at one of his studios. Len really isn't that sensitive, but does have a very dry sense of humour that sometime gets misunderstood.

Ah I actually love the audience participation. It must be magic to be in the audience *sigh*. I fear my shouts of encouragement for my chosen fave would get me ejected.

Out of interest, how often have you seen Len dance? Apart from the brief clip of him dancing back in the day in that It takes two VT, before he used to show Claudia how to do some moves, I've never seen him do a full on dance.

It is absolutely stupid and so annoying and definitely organised by the producers, like most of the annoying, unwanted add ons they have introduced into the show .

What do they expect from people they're paying highly to judge the dancing, nothing at all negative but all 10's . All the criticism last night was merited but they all concluded with positive feedback to correct the flaws in technique .

Well the bib answers all your concerns.

I assume all members of the Strictly audience are required to sign away their souls prior to being admitted. They are then at the producers' every whim. They must stand up and sit down on cue (invisible puppet strings and electrified chairs may also be used) and make whatever idiotic noise is required of them at any given time.

The producers of reality "talent" shows have always assumed that this is what the viewers want.

They have always been wrong but this has sadly not stopped them.

Quite so.

They stop booing on producer command.

It is a pantomime.

There is a letter in the Radio Times about the booing! Hope they take note.

Not sure how many times I have to say it - the show is pantomime. Why do people insist on trying to turn it into a serious contest?

Because it shouldn't be a pantomime. It never used to be like this.

I've know Len for around 25 years and have seen him dance many many times. Not in competition mode, although I have seen private videos of him competing in The Duel of the Giants and the International Championships, which he usually won. But I've seen him dance with his students, many of whom professional dancers, some who have been Strictly pros, and I've danced with him myself.
