ToWC managed to synthesize the Phantom of the Opera, & the Jack the Ripper & vampire myths & throw in some space travel, hi-tech & a grotesque & homicidal dwarf to produce an original piece of horror-scifi.as for BoM. Planet of Evil managed to feature a mysterious predatory beast & adapt Jekyll & Hyde to a future space colony/space ship setting to good effect.

Of new who, Utopia stands out for me. The build-up to the revelation about genial old Professor Yana is awesomely done, &, with the other events of the episode, is a superbly atmospheric bit of slowly building but accelerating ratcheting-up of tension. Blink was also a great piece of writing.”

I agree. It's exceptionally well done both in the script and the production. My problem with 'Utopia' is that it's followed by the unwatchable trash that is 'The Last of the Time Lords'. What a let down!

I'm going to approach this rather differently. I'm going to find my favourite story (because it is usually a two-parter) of each Series of NuWho (including specials), and rank them. This won't necessarily show my favourite episodes of NuWho in order, but it will do in my mind.
Series 1: The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances
Series 2: The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit
Series 3: Human Nature/Family of Blood
Series 4: The Waters of Mars
Series 5: The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang
Series 6: A Good Man Goes to War
Series 7: Day of the Doctor
Series 8 (so far): Mummy on the Orient Express

1) Human Nature/Family of Blood (100/100)
2) Day of the Doctor (97/100)
3) The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang (96/100)
4) A Good Man Goes to War (94/100)
5) The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances (91/100)
6) The Waters of Mars (90/100)
7) Mummy on the Orient Express (89/100)
8) The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit (87/100)

I tend to like the NuuOO episodes that are two-parters, more sci-fi in nature, and perhaps closer to the original run in character e.g. The fantastic 'Impossible Planet/Satan Pit', 'Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead', 'Time of Angel/Flesh and Stone', 'The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang', 'Waters of Mars', 'Midnight', etc.

Another nod to The Parting of the Ways.

Being my first series of Doctor Who and simply watching at the time (as opposed to actively seeking news etc) - imagine my awe as I was hit by a regeneration after the fine piece of drama which preceeded it.

1. Midnight
2. Blink
3. Waters of Mars

The passive aggressiveness in this one is strong.

There's a difference between posting your opinion and making patronising little digs at posters who hadn't even posted in the thread at that point.

But if that's what you enjoy, carry on.

But I'm not actually aiming it at any poster in particular. Its not personal or nasty. Frankly I don't care what other people like or don't like. I enjoy it when I'm on the same page as others on an episode but it wont affect my enjoyment.

There is however one thing that does wind me up. Its inconsistency. I've seen In the Forest of the Night getting a monstering from some fans for being silly and whimsical and childish. And yet I know these same people loved Partners in Crime! Its ludicrous. Its like those members of the Moffat Can't Win brigade who get busy whinging on Twitter about Clara and Danny having a romance and how it gets in the way and then pop onto Tumblr to create images of Ten and Rose and dash off some fan fiction about what would have happened if they got married. Its crazy!

The Brain of Morbius is my favourite Classic Who episode, and my favourite New Who is either Closing Time or Flatline.

So now you're going off on a tangent about some "Moffat Can't Win" brigade.

Just because someone may have liked Rose and Ten doesn't mean it's strange they wouldn't enjoy Clara and Danny. Different characters with different stories.

Similarly, just because they liked one light hearted/silly episode doesn't mean they'll like another.

I do wish you wouldn't do this, salad. It gets very tiresome. I have great affection for Donna, still my favourite companion (after Lucie B Miller) I thought the comedy in series 4 was very good, and though the blobs of fat weren't the best idea ever, I thought that episode was fine.

It doesn't mean I don't like Listen. It's up there with my favourite episodes. People are not split on a RTD/Moffat basis, and if you think they are you are just wrong. Equally there is not a "series 1-4 good, series 5-8 bad" ethos on the forum. There are good and bad episodes in every series, and what people think is good or bad is different for everyone.

It's fine that you like Moffat. I like him sometimes. You don't have to denigrate RTD fans, though, in order to defend him - especially when no one has attacked him.

On Topic.

Favourite New Who - Human Nature/Family of Blood by a couple of country miles.

Favourite Old Who - An Unearthly Child. It's when I fell for Doctor Who, so it's always special to me.

Human Nature/The Family of Blood and Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang are close second.

After a long think, it's probably The Doctor's Wife for C21 Who. Closely followed by Pandorica/Big Bang.

So far. Today. I'm a flipperdejibit. (no idea if that's how you spell it!)
