I'm having difficulties transferring my mp3's from my Laptop computer to my phone.
I have nearly 7.1GB of music I want to transfer to my Samsung Galaxy Fame (GT-S6810P).
The music transferred fine to an 8GB micro SD card but I intend to also store pictures and add more music to the card eventually so I bought a 32GB card which according to the manual is perfectly OK to use.

But when I transfer the music, by the time it's completed, I go and check it and I find some folders containing albums and album tracks are present but are empty or not completely full.
Some folders though may contain only the track names but no other info such as the track length, artist, genre etc.

There are three ways I have used to transfer music:
1. Going to the storage menu in the phone and press 'Unmount card' from menu. Remove the micro SD card from the phone when safe to do so. Place into an SD card apaptor into the computer. Then copy and paste the folders from my C: drive to my F: drive (SD card slot).

2. Keep the micro SD card in the phone, connect a USB to micro USB between my laptop and phone then copy and paste as above.

3. As 2 except transfer using Windows Media Player using the Sync feature.

All three methods seem to result in missing tracks and missing information.

One thing I have noticed is if I try to transfer all music in one go, it causes more data loss.
If I do just a few albums or so at a time, there's less chance of data loss but find data does seem to disappear later on whichever way I do it.

Although a 32GB card is supposed to be fine for my device, could it have got corrupted?
Would I be better going down to a 16GB card?

Can anyone recommend a better way of transferring music to my micro SD card/phone to prevent data corruption?

Hope there's some experienced music downloaders out there that can offer me advice and help me with my issue.

I'd say it's highly likely you've got a corrupted SD card because all of the methods you've mentioned should all transfer data without an issue.

Where did you get the card ?

I agree completely that the fault most probably lies in the card.

Did you format it?

Whether you did or not, what capacity does "Properties" show?

Have you tried copying other types of file?

Fake 32GB microSD card perhaps?

I've actually got two 32GB cards and both seem to have faults downloading the music.
I tried formatting the cards in the phone but when that didn't work, then tried formatting the cards through the computer.
The properties for both cards when empty and formatted says they contain 31.24GB so are a little less than the expected amount of around 32.768 GB so can't really be called fake if they contain around 32,736 kB less if my Maths is correct.

That actually seems too high, my 32GB Samsung MicroSD card has 29.27GB available space and a 32GB USB stick I use has 29.28GB available. Dodgy fake cards will often have a dodgy fake capacity listed and will be unable to ever use that space.

It might be worth then trying a 16GB card but It's a pity though you can't buy non-standard cards, say 20GB or 24GB.

One thing I didn't know about is that these cards are placed in 'Classes'.
Mine is a Class 10 which apparently gives a transfer speed of 40MB/s
Class 4: 4MB/s. Class 6: 24MB/s.

So is this Class rating critical to the operation of the card?
If so, would you recommend sticking with a Class 10 or dropping to a Class 4 or 6? Or any other class ratings if they exist? (only come across Class 4, 6 and 10 so far).

The rating might be critical if you were using the card for HD video recording. I believe that the only effect when it comes to copying files is that it might be faster. Or might not, depending on the socket speed.

There's no need for a class 10 for basic copying, class 4 is quite sufficient. And usually a lot cheaper.

Did the two 32GB cards come from the same source? What make(s) are they?

Have you another card, which you know works, which you can try copying to?

Are you using a USB card reader? If so, does your computer have a card slot?

When I had an Android phone, I always used Class 10 cards - I had a Sandisk 64gb Class 10 Micro SD card and never had a single issue with it.

My 32GB cards are both from the same source and are unbranded cards but were bought in brand new and unused condition.
I originally bought an 8GB card for use in a non-smartphone Nokia but now simply using the same card in my Samsung.
Though since changing phones, I have added music and pictures to it and it's worked fine.
And to transfer files, if I remove the card from my phone, I then put it into an SD card adaptor into either the SD card slot in my laptop or I have a USB hub/card reader in one and place the card adaptor into the SD card slot there.

I've just ordered a genuine Samsung brand 16GB micro SD card so will give that a try as I think that'll be big enough for what I need anyway though I could've bought any brand or unbranded 16GB card and providing the card was bought from a reputable source, it should be OK whichever brand I bought as long as it's not a used card or one of those upgraded cards that's perhaps been upgraded from say 2GB to 16GB.

I think it's the "unbranded" bit I'd worry about. Personally, I stick to Crucial, Kingston or Sandisk, but I'd expect Samsung to be an equally good brand.

Just to keep you posted, I received the Samsung 16GB Class 6 micro SD card and have copied my 7.1 GB of music to it and has copied without any apparent problems or data loss.
So perhaps if I had bought a higher quality 32GB micro SD card like a SanDisk brand than the unbranded card I originally bought, it might have worked fine in my phone.
But 16GB is plenty for now so I'll stick with that.

I have had a Samsung Galaxy 1,2,and 3 and all of them didn't like any of the classes apart from Class 10 which worked fine and no problems

I still have my Galaxy S3 and still using it with a 16gb Class 10 like someone said on here be careful what make you buy because there are lots of crappy ones out there
i myself are using the Samsung Cards

You also have the same problem with USB Memory sticks i brought a 128gb one and had the same problem when i went to use it half the stuff i copied to it was not there
Brought a Transcend and all works fine ( The old saying is You Get What You Pay For )
in other words stick to the good brands even if you have to pay that bit more.
