Saying "Thank You."

This has probably been done before. But I wish some more of the celebrities and their partners made a bit of an effort to mouth a gracious "Thank you" to the camera, when they find out that the viewers have kept them in.
Some make no effort at all.

That is to say, that I don't want them to do a theatrical, "Pamela Stephenson," which could have had me throwing cushions at the telly, she did it like that so often.

I'd rather they didn't. It's all a bit too desperate and sickly for my liking.

Depends how they do it.
That's why I mentioned la Stephenson, it's just good manners, but I guess much of that is a thing of the past.
Viewers "know" who they've kept in.

I think just let them be themselves. Some yell and jump up and down, some say thank you, some look shattered, some hug as if their lives depended on it. If people make a big thing of it being polite to say it, then everyone has to and what's the point. I don't mind what they do, as long as they look basically happy.

Except for people putting their hands together in prayer, I might take against that a bit.

I think all of them thank people who have voted for them on Twitter.

Really? There's a long tradition of reality tv contestants mouthing thank you to a tv camera?

I don't mind if they do it, but at best, it's all a bit 'knowing' to do so. At worst, it's contrived fakery. Simply looking happy/relieved and embracing their partner is a more natural and authentic reaction.

I want to see the last celeb to be put through tap their watch while mouthing at the camera "about bl**dy time"

They are damned if they do and damned if they don't. If they don't say thank you then the "how dare they disrespect the public and bite the hand that feeds them" brigade will be in uproar and will refuse ever to vote for the unappreciative reprobates ever again.

If they do then the "it is all staged and looks desperate" brigade will be in uproar and will refuse ever to vote for them again.

I personally don't care. I know that they are thankful for the public support so I don't need them to look right at the camera and profusely say thank you...some celebs and pros ( looking at you Brendan ) are a bit OTT with that... but then again they're some people who really take offense if contestants don't do that....to each their own really.....

Like I said, I don't care either way

I pay attention to this. Let's be honest what else is there to do in those pregnant pauses between names being called? I do value it when the celebrity mouths their thanks.

Now, that I would appreciate. It'd probably guarantee my vote next time.

As long as it's genuine (as if you could know) any reaction is fine by me. Looking mightily relieved is a kind of thank you. Being overjoyed is too. Sometimes that's better than words. So I'm not much fussed.

On balance I'd rather they didn't. It can be annoying if you'd rather they'd left weeks ago

What I don't like is when some of the women in the Claudium waggle their hands with out-stretched pinkie finger and thumb.

DVO did it every time. Sort of reminds me of those late night TV channels that one might possibly come across staffed by pneumatic blondes with Estuary accents.

Brendan invariably does it to the wrong camera.

I agree, although this is probably the first series I've actually noticed it happening so much which makes me suspect it's becoming more common to make the effort. I like it.

Pointing to their voting telephone number when it's up on the screen after they've had their scores - that's not necessary ! Kristina and Karen have done this recently. But I quite like it when they say a little thank you on result night because I'm a stickler for good manners !

I'd prefer it if they were just themselves, rather than worrying about upsetting some petty strangers.

...who've spent money on your behalf.

That's the problem - when they don't offer thanks, it's just as if they're thinking "petty strangers".

I was surprised Tim wasn't more forthcoming in this regard (since he's a very courteous person), but he more than made up for it with his post-exit behaviour.

Puzzles me as well. I often wonder why dead people dont open their coffins and mouth thank you for the wreaths

And if they dare to show the slightest amount of emotion on getting through then it will probably lead to a long pointless thread on here about whether they were faking it.

I was brought up to always use my manners whatever the situation.
That being the case I always expect others to do the same, but on Strictly this very rarely happens.
Brendan being the exception he always makes a point of saying thank you which I think is lovely.
When someone has taken the trouble to pick up the phone and vote and also spend money to keep them in the show the very least they can do is just say thank you, it only takes a second.
