Kat's scars?
EE Kat 's scars are not what would be expected from someone who had been badly burnt in an explosion.
Initially the make up dept did a good job portraying her horrific injuries, but last night, her face was smooth and unscarred; burnt skin contracts, distorts and disfigures. Granted it would have been hard to represent this, may have taken a special mask, but if the writers wanted to show the devastating life changing effects of burns, as was announced when this storyline first came out, they should have prepared it better. Of course there are emotional scars as well, but viewers were led to believe they would see the horrific after effects of burns scars. It may be that other parts of her body were burnt, but given the intensity of the fire in which she was trapped, it would be expected that her face would suffer life changing scarring. It would have been interesting to see how she coped with it. |

I get the impression that what we saw last night was Kat with loads of make-up on, to cover up the scars now that she is leaving the hospital. So maybe they're saving the reveal of the extent her real injury until everyone's forgotten about it a bit? And maybe after Alfie admits to her what he did?

Realistically they needed the scars to be something that they can do in makeup everyday.

In reality her facial features would be distorted, she would be disfigured.
Make up couldn't cover that up. I think the writers were too ambitious and now can't portray the story line as it should be. |

I think the scars they have on her neck are enough and the worst of her scars being on her legs/body means that the makeup department won't have to do extensive work on Jessie Wallace every time she films a scene. You have to think of the practicalities.

I'm surprised this storyline isn't getting heavy criticism on here. I think it's absolute shit. Wallace and Richie need to accept they can't have constant drama after drama and just take a backseat for a year. The whole storyline is a contrived load of rubbish so they can have something "meaty" to feast on and make coming to work worthwhile. I've had worse burns spilling my tea! Kat and Alfie are such a joke. They've had more drama in the last 4 years than most characters get in a lifetime.

I think they made a mistake in doing this half-heartedly. They are writing a storyline based on the idea she has been horribly disfigured, but her face doesn't warrant that - I know she's vain and the way she looks at herself has changed, but I think as a viewer, I find it difficult to not see it as an over-reaction.
I'd hoped Eastenders had learned about doing burn storylines from the Masoods storyline, but I don't think they have. |

I lost hair from a lit cigarette butt when I was younger. Kat kept all hers. Now I'm jealous.

I think it is they who should have thought about the practicalities and if they weren't prepared to do the make-up properly, they shouldn't have bothered with the story at all. They built it up to be this life-changing event that it just isn't.
They have done the makeup properly but they're not going to have her face disfigured requiring prosthetics every time she appears are they? |

The story has barely got off the ground yet. The worst of her scars are on her body, like Tamwar.

Maybe they should get Jesse Wallace by the back of the head and shove her into a fire, permanently scar her, give her a couple of days to get used to the scars then head back to work as it needs to look 100% authentic. Imagination while watching an episode for 30 minutes and buying into the story from a viewer perspective as it's just a scripted drama, is a lot harder to do so real burns are necessary before the moaning stops.
Some people get burned and are scarred and have to live with that every day, people debating on whether an actress make up looks real or not in a tv show could be really offensive to those people who might be reading this. I just don't get the insensitivity. |

I could say I thought Alfie would die, that's not the shows fault. ![]() We can't call it pointless yet, as it's barely started. |

Oh dear, it's a shame we can't discuss a story line without people getting hysterical about it.
I simply feel it's a let down. That's all. Can we all be grown up about this? Please? |

I think the story is meant to be more about the psycological scars than the physical ones.
the actual fire was just build up to the story which has now started with Kat saying she couldn't wear that dress |

When I initially read life changing I thought they meant her face, something she can't cover.
I was surprised to see just the wound on the side of her neck which will heal over time. I have no idea how bad the other scar are but for someone who walks around half undressed I guess that could be tricky. In any case seen it all before with Tamwar poor love, his burns were horrid |

It's high time she covered them up. |

It seems a bit lazy to me. Like they couldn't be bothered todo the scares everything she's in make up. Look at Carmel from HO's scare she had, it was massive on the side of her face and they did that every time she was on make up.

![]() There is no way they could give Kat a facial disfigurement requiring Jessie Wallace to wear a prosthetic all the time. Given the heavy filming schedule it's just not practical. |
