Hi, I've recently moved to an area with next to no network coverage. An O2 advisor suggested I download the TU go app which routes calls and texts through my home broadband when there is no signal.

This works great for making calls using the app and sending texts, but when I get an incoming call I cannot answer it when tapping or sliding finger on the screen. I have a Galaxy S4, any help on how to answer calls using TU go appreciated

Welcome to the world of no O2 signal supplemented by possibly one of the worst apps on the Play Store.

When I was with O2 I had the same problems and frankly the Tu Go app was not the answer. It doesn't even integrate with the phone in any way. You can't chose your own ringtones and messaging tones, it frequently misses incoming calls which go straight to voice mail and I had exactly the same problem as you with my Nexus 5. I couldn't answer any calls that did ring which was even more frustrating!!

Top all of this with the fact that you get your SMS messages when you don't have a signal and then you get them again when you return to signal, which lets face it if you're at home may be a considerable time later. The whole thing is extremely frustrating.

Very fortunately, once my contract with O2 ended we have a first class signal with EE so I took a SIM only deal with them with my Nexus 5.

I least I know it's not just me. So are there any other alternative apps that can do a better job than TU go?

Unfortunately, it appears not! As you can imagine when I was in the same predicament and stuck with the appalling O2 service I made a few phone calls and I also had a considerable number of emails with the Tu Go developers, all to no avail. Certainly O2 offer no other service for poor reception areas.

EE who I already mentioned are apparently working on an app and I have heard rumours that it's looking pretty good, hence the time it is taking them to develop and release, although as I said I'm lucky to be in a very good HPSA 3G EE area, hence the swap.

So, I can only suggest that when your contract is up, you get a few free PAYG SIMS for the other operators and try in your area and areas you work or go to on a regular basis. It seems to be the only way to get an idea of true reception. The coverage maps for all the networks are not always to be believed and certainly don't take the word of those in the operators shops.

This could be another idea, I've seen loads of them in the Google app store, most are probably gimmicks or malware in disguise. Are there any legit ones? I don't mind paying.

Ouch! 16 months to go. Nasty. If it's a contract on their Refresh deal you could of course pay it off, but of course you may not be able to afford to take that course of action.

As to the signal booster apps I can't say I've tried them but in my experience of radio, TV and wireless technology trying to boost a poor signal doesn't really work. What a nightmare.

It just galls me that mountainous countries such as Slovenia can manage to get mobile signals all over the place, but we can't seem to manage it here in relatively flat areas of the country!
