It was suggested that I start this thread, this week - and start it early! So make of it what you will for pre-episode discussion Or ignore it entirely until Saturday! The choice is yours.

I've just watched it for preview purposes. This is the typical quiet episode before the finale. It's not bad, but it's a noticeable step down from the brilliance of the two Jamie Mathieson episodes. The calm before the oncoming storm.

Interesting episode this one, RTD was often criticised for having "the whole Earth is in peril" storylines, and Moffat effectively jettisoned them with his reset at the end of Season 5, yet now we have what appears to be another version of said storyline under Moffat's stewardship.

I love the William Blake reference in the title, I've always thought the Doctor would like Blake.

And good to see the return of the sparkly space jumper!

I have a feeling that the title will be the best thing about it. The "exciting" photos on DS were anything but and the trailer made it look deathly dull. How "exciting"! A kid running through a wood... When the tiger threatened the kid in the trailer I was on the tiger's side.

3/10

Nice one now we just need the mods to pin it early too, as I missed it yesterday and someone else has posted a duplicate today!
I'm glad you got in there with a good opening post though!

Someone else who's seen the preview said much the same to me - that this ep basically shows up how good the Mathieson eps were and they found it a step backwards in comparison. Pity!

Now previews are ruining your enjoyment before the episode airs

I can't believe we have only 3 episodes left.

Its been an interesting season and a bit like a debut album- fresh, mostly hits and one or two not so great but you want to "listen" to it again.

I want a bit more pretty please (including Christmas) Steven Moffat.

I'm avoiding all of the previews now because I got burned falling for hype with some of the previous episodes (more fool me) so I haven't seen any detailed synopsis for this but I'm eagerly awaiting it for two reasons:

William Blake title
J.G Ballard-esque concept

(and of course: new writer)

This season though, I've tended to enjoy the ones more that I didn't have so high an anticipation of (ie. when I was pleasantly surprised) so hopefully that trend won't continue.

Let's hope for an interesting concept, well-handled, no cop out or preposterous ending, and a powerful setup for the finale.

My original comment probably came across harsher than intended. It's not in-your-face scary and pacy like the Mathieson episodes, but that's not the brief. This is more of a fairy-tale type of episode - it's not one to set your heart racing, but I found it rather enchanting.

I did think that was probably the case, thanks for confirming.

According to some reviews for the episode, there is no cliffhanger for the season finale.

Unless there's a major twist to lead into the two part finale?
It's not been unknown for big plot twists or surprise revelation cliffhangers to be removed from pre-transmission review copies.

Slouchingthatch may be able to confirm, but I heard that there was no next time trailer attached to preview copies.

There was no "next time" trailer on the preview version I watched, although there was a note to indicate that this was not the final broadcast version, so I wouldn't be at all surprised if the usual teaser at the end of the episode does appear on Saturday.

Horsebite: There's no cliffhanger at the end of this episode as such, but events in this episode will certainly have some bearing on the finale in terms of teeing things up.
