And finally...

Luge from Park City, Utah
Have just noticed that all the Luge events this season have been streamed live and are archived, which is just as well, because there's been hardly anything on Eurosport.
Watched the two streams from this morning, some fantastic commentary, really brought the technicalities of the sport to live. Thoroughly recommend.

It'll be a disaster for Schiffrin if she can't make tomorrow's slalom. Vonn will be out of sight. Strange to see Maze commentating on the men's races.

Seemingly she has gone back home to the States, so she's probably out for the whole pre-Christmas series.

And what's more he got an interview with Tina Maze! It's been a great day for Team GB all round. Charlotte Gilmartin got her first WC bronze medal in the 1500m Short Track in Shangai, 2 fifth places for Elise Christie. And Andrew Young got the best-ever British placings in the Cross Country Sprint in Davos - 9th overall and 5th in the prologue time trial.

Woohoo! And Andrew Young gets third place in the final! Once again a PB and National Record - looked very comfortable all day and easily made his way through the qualifiers. There's surely more to come this season, perhaps even a win.

Andrew Young interview. Can't get over this; sometimes in winter sports guys get lucky and get a big result they never back up again - this isn't the case with Andrew, he showed today that he has got everything he needs to be consistently successful for many years to come.

It is a great result and not an expert on CC skiing but there did seem to be quite a few top names missing. Nethertheless massive achievement

Scary incident in the Madonna di Campiglio slalom where a remote-control camera seemed to fall out the sky and came within centimetres of crashing into Marcel Hirscher's head as he skied past. Look for it on YouTube.

And another decent result for Britain's Dave Ryding - he didn't look happy with his two runs, but they were good enough for 24th place on a pretty tough course, keeping him in the WC top thirty, which guarantees regular TV coverage and better start positions.

Noticed on ARD text this morning that the Oberhof event at the beginning of January has been cancelled, due to lack of snow, and it being too warm to make any. The same article said that at present Ruhpolding is also under threat. The IBU is meeting on 27.12.15 and will announce where, if at all, the Oberhof round will be transferred to.

I would imagine the Tour de Ski may also under threat as there really isn't much snow below 2000m at the moment anywhere around the alps. ZDF were however suggesting something a little more seasonal after new Year - but that may be wishful thinking!

The way this winter is going it's going to be a nightmare, not only for competitive winter sports, but also for the whole winter sports leisure industry in central Europe.

It's only going to get worse over the next couple of decades.

Biathlon update - both WC4 and WC5 will be held at Ruhpolding, so they should have plenty time to get things ready The scedule of races is unchanged.

The biathlon should be on TV appx 5.30pm our time. As the ski-jumping's going on there's no indication on Eurosport; but ARD do keep popping over to the stadium and updating us.

More great news for Team GB, Alexandra Tilley gets her first World Cup points ever with a fine 19th place in the Giant Slalom in Lienz. She has been going for it hard, but lots of DNFs so far, so hopefully she will be settling down now.

Another fantastic afternoons biathlon in Gelsenkirchen yesterday, though it was a shame that some nations, notably Norway, didn't put a team in. This year's field was probably the highest quality they have had since I have been watching it.

I thought the addition of the short sharp climb was a great idea, though the sharp right turn at the bottom of the hill was probably just a bit too tight - made for good TV though.

Congratulations to Dorin-Habbert and Martin Fourcard for winning the overall - and also the czechs for coming second. The crowd didn't seem to disappointed that Germany only came third!

This format really appears to work. It would be great if there could be some way in which an exhibition event could be held in UK - I'm sure that with the right promotion they could make a go of it. After all, they manage it with another minority sport - American Football. Ideally the venue would need to be both near a major population, and also within striking distance of a "snow dome" where they make artificial snow already. The stadium would ideally also need a roof, which I suppose would limit the locations in UK to Cardiff? It doesn't seem that warm temperatures would be a problem, as The Ruhr as been as warm as much of UK over Christmas!

Incidentally, all the (artificial) snow at Gelsenkirchen is being shipped to Willingen to ensure the World Cup Ski Jumping event there early next year - really environmentally friendly that!

Another classic "what happened next" moment in the men's downhill today - look out for it on YouTube. Christian Innerhofer of Italy skied into a gate, the gate detached, caught on his chest and he continued with the gate, poles and all, wrapped round his neck. What's more, he even beat quite a few guys!

Andrew Young continues to impress: qualifies second for today's sprint. Finals coming up starting at 15:00. Andrew Musgrave 45th, but nowadays he is definitely concentrating on the endurance events.
