Andrew Young continues to impress: qualifies second for today's sprint. Finals coming up starting at 15:00. Andrew Musgrave 45th, but nowadays he is definitely concentrating on the endurance events.

Lots of midweek action this week The snow situation seems to be improving, but it takes a little while to convert fallen snow into usable pistes.
Alpine skiing - 2 slaloms from Santa Caterina, transferred from Zagreb. Possibility for two British top 30s, Alexandra Tilley is brushing the top 30 in slalom as well as GS. Tuesday - Ladies slalom Wednesday - Men's slalom Ski Jumping - Final event of the 4 Hills from Bishopshofen. Tuesday - Qualifying Wednesday - Final Cross Country Tour de Ski. Andrew Young seems to be going well, but Andrew Musgrave is completely out of form, sadly. Tuesday - Classic sprint from Oberstdorf. Wednesday - Men and women's Classic mass starts from Oberstdorf |

Third good result in a row for Dave Ryding in the Santa Caterina slalom - 13th this time with another second run that turned out to be better than he thought at first. Plenty more slaloms coming up in the next couple of weeks as well.

Some interesting results were produced in Round 4 of the Skeleton WC - the spoils went to home favourite Anne O'Shea, whose only previous podium finish happened back in December 2011! Gilardoni took second place (her best ever finish) and Deas claimed her second podium finish of the season.
Hermann came fourth and remains the overall leader; Creighton made the top 10. ----- Looking elsewhere, there's also the second-tier Intercontinental Cup, with the latest two rounds concluded in Igls.* Elena Nikitina took the spoils in both - despite the Russian womens' recent struggles in the World Cup, this isn't a surprise because the Igls track suits the fast pushers (like Nikitina) more than any other. Finally - keep an eye on British youngster Ashleigh Fay Pittaway. The 15 year-old came 16th/15th in those races and may well succeed Lölling as the Youth Olympic skeleton champion at Lillehammer 2016... [* This is also where the 2016 IBSF World Championships are taking place] |

Today's men's GS at Adelboden is cancelled, so there will be changes to the Eurosport schedule.
Andrew Musgrave got a much needed good result yesterday, 20th in the 10K Freestyle Time Trial. He's still way behind in the Tour de Ski overall, but hopefully he can get a few more World Cup points on the board. Should have mentioned yesterday that there is also the European Championships in Speed Skating this weekend, in Minsk. Eurosport has highlights tonight and tomorrow evening. Strangely it doesn't seem to be streamed live. |

Off work for a small domestic matter today so watching live biathlon unexpectedly - the great news is that at long last we have fresh falls of snow, so it looks like a a proper biathlon race for once.

More World Cup points for Dave Ryding,, 16th today in Wengen. As usual, one great run and one average one, the day he puts two great runs together is the day he does something special. Now 19th in the overall Slalom World Cup

GOLD for Elise Christie in the 1500m Short Track European Champs in Moscow - I got my calculations wrong in the earlier post, the live stream started on 11:00. Highlights on Eurosport on Monday.

It's a real massacre in Kitzbuhel, three big crashes already. Svindal is the latest to go to. Surely they've got to call it off.
No, they're going on. Brave men. |

Yeah, they've stopped it after 30 racers, so enough to guarantee a result, but not wanting to put the lesser guys at risk. After the Svindal crash I thought most of the runners were backing off and just concentrating on getting down.

GOLD!!! again for Elise Christie, this time in the 500m. She really is head and shoulders above the rest of the Europeans at the moment. It's great to see her so confident, laughing and joking before the races.

GOLD!!! again for Elise Christie, this time in the 1000m. Hadn't realised yesterday that these championships were taking place in the same Sochi track that she was DQFed on during the Olympics!

GOLD!!! For Charlotte Gilmartin in the final 3000m Super Final after the Dutch skater who crossed the line first got DQ. Elise was in the race, but didn't race it out, after already winning the overall title. Charlotte Gilmartin 2nd overall as well, so a great weekend for the British women. Men not so good, but one final place and they are in the relay final later.
Bad luck for Dave Ryding in the Kitzbuhel slalom, straddled in the second run after taking a big lead in the intermediate splits. |

And BRONZE!!!! for the men's Short Track relay team. In true Short Track fashion they got their medal by hanging around at the back and waiting for one of the big three to fall over, which Russia did.
