A couple of rivalries - Sábliková v Wüst (W3,000m) and Kramer v Bergsma (M5,000m) have certainly delivered in the SD Worlds. Also looks like Olympic champion Lee Sang-hwa (W500m) is back with a vengeance.

GOLD!!!! again for Elise Christie in the 1000m in Dordrecht. Another very classy win, was able to accelerate away from the field when it mattered.

Regarding the women's 500m in Kolomna - not only did Lee go sub-75 for her 2x500m (which rarely happens at sea-level), but her winning margin (eight tenths!) was bigger than the margin between second and tenth place.

The Dutch reclaimed their women's team pursuit title from Japan despite the fact their formation fell apart on the last curve.

GBR 6 Serbia 2 in the Icd hockey Olympic qualifier! Tournament hosts Italy beat Serbia 8-0 on Friday, and play Nederland later tonight, so it looks like a tough showdown with the home team to advance to the final stage.

Bruce Tasker and Joel Fearon finish the 2-man bobsleigh in a highly creditable fourth place - the best GB result in a global championship since Nash & Dixon won medals between 1963 and 1966 (yes, half a century).

The Germans are having a great weekend, having won 2-man gold,* 2-woman gold* and 2-man silver so far.

[* Interesting contrast in careers regarding these specific disciplines - 25 y/o Francesco Friedrich has won 3 world titles in succession; 37 y/o Anja Schneiderheinze won her first global title in a decade (and third overall)]

Well, it seems that Madison Rowlands has got TeamGB off the mark in Lillehammer 2016 with gold in the ladies' ski halfpipe! First ever Youth Olympic medal won by a Brit on snow...and for that matter, the first ever Winter YO title.

And wouldn't you know it, it's two years to the day since Lizzy Yarnold dominated the opposition in Sochi.

-----

Elsewhere, there's been more success on snow as Katie Ormerod claimed her first ever podium finish at a FIS Snowboard World Cup meet with second place in big air at Quebec City. Note that big air will make its Olympic debut in Pyeongchang...

GOLD!!!! again for Elise Christie in the 500m. Probably her most important win of the year so far, easily dominated the best in the world, Minjeong Choi, Arianne Fontana and Marianne St Gervais.

And SILVER!!! for Paul Stanley in the men's 500m, think that is his first ever World Cup medal.

That's now seven WC medals (4G 3S) for Christie this season, the composition of which is even better than the eight WC medals (2G 4S 2B) she won in 2012/13. I think she will end the season with more WCh medals and a maiden title, touch wood.

Speaking of short track, I see that a couple of Brits won medals (including gold) as part of mixed teams in Innsbruck 2012 (I was wondering why the BBC said 3 medals were won back then).

-----

Looks like Lee wasn't the only South Korean long track skater winning a 500m global title yesterday - her nation may have another long track prospect in Kim Min-sun, who won the YO equivalent.

Staying with the theme of precocious speed skaters from South Korea (Lee herself won WCh 500m bronze at the age of 16!), it's incredible to think that world champion Choi Min-jeong could have been competing in Lillehammer if she wanted to...

If this is correct, she also broke her own NR, not to mention getting within 15 hundredths of Fan Kexin's altitude-assisted WR...!

And unfortunately Italy on their home ice proved too big a task for GB, final score ITA 6-GBR 2. The Italians advance to final play-offs in September, we must try to rebuild and get into the world's top 20 to improve our chances. Next tournament is the Worlds in Croatia in April, where we will be trying to get out of what is effectively the Third Division and into the second.

And good news for fans of American alpine skiing - Michaela Schiffrin is back from injury and competing in the slalom in Crans Montana this morning.

Snowboard cross never fails to produce the goods (full video) - in the YO men's small final, someone slipped at the start and their board smacked a competitor in the face.

Today's single mixed relay in the YO biathlon was thrilling to watch - I won't spoil how it turned out, so here's the full video.

Bob and Skeleton World Champs start up again tomorrow. This time it is all live on Proper Telly for once - BT Sport Europe for every day, except ESPN on Sunday. Also a lot live on BBC Red Button or BBC Online, so no doubt geo-blocked on YouTube.

Full timetable here

GOLD!!!! for Ashleigh Pittaway in the Women's Skeleton in the YOG! Looking at the figures she's done it in the true Lizzie Yarnold style, almost one sec up on the silver, and more than 2 secs up on the bronze after only two runs.

For a track that generally produces relatively small gains for the drivers, the gaps between Martins Dukurs and the rest are rather big - Tretiakov and Yun were over half a second behind overnight! Oh, and Dukurs beat Tretiakov's track record (from this year's ICC) in the first run too. They will conclude hostilities this afternoon.

Nikitina broke her track record (also from the ICC) during the team comp, only for Hermann to slice virtually a quarter of a second off it...who, funnily enough, leads the individual comp at the halfway point (it concludes tomorrow). Only home favourite Janine Flock is within half a second of her time...!

Pittaway and her German friend Hannah Neise (who won silver) are both just 15 years of age* which is quite young, even by YO standards. Prodigious as they are (the German system clearly works), it would be quite the achievement for either of them to earn selection for Pyeongchang.

Press release; halfway standings; final standings

The other British YO champ this year is also just 15, as it happens^ - and as I was typing that, said champ Madison Rowlands won a bronze medal in the ladies' ski slopestyle as well!

[* Also born just 3 days apart]
[^ All but one of the rest of TeamGB are 16/17]

Barring an apocalypse, the younger Dukurs will claim world title #4 today. He set yet another track record in run 3!

Yup, it's title #4 for the Latvian legend, beating the rest by over a second with yet another track record!!

After winning his first WC race in St Moritz earlier, Yun now has his first WCh medal as he tied for silver with Tretiakov. What could happen in 2 years?

Just to note, Team GB have big medal prospects in the two YOG bobsleigh events tomorrow, sadly live TV coverage unlikely. The event is mono bob, i.e., solo bobsleigh.

And according to the commentary, the Korean track is opening next week, so plenty of practice chances.

Bronze for Kelsea Purchall in the Women's Bob in the Youth Olympics. Bit of a what might have been for Team GB - Annabell Chaffey was 4th, Aimee Davey was 5th. Men's later.

And more near misses in the Ski Slopestyle WC in Korea - Kate Summerhayes was 6th, Isabel Aitken 7th. James Woods 16th in the men's.
