I'd forgotten all 3 Brits made the team for that event.

Back in Igls, the Germans can celebrate more success as Hermann wins her first world title by almost half a second. She's having a superb season - indeed, there's still another World Cup round in her home town to do (she is effectively WC champion-elect). If she repeats her form next season, she will go toe-to-toe with Lizzy like Noelle Pikus-Pace did a couple of years ago.

The home crowd also have reason to celebrate as Flock held on to win silver (her first global medal). After crashing out last year, Nikitina produced two excellent runs to grab the bronze medal.

Oooh oooh oooh, incredible things going on in the 4-Man Bob after two runs, Lamine Deen and Crew currently in 4th place, just 0.03 off sliver medal place, 0.30 off gold!!! There's going to be drama tomorrow, third run 14:00, fourth run 15:30.

Aaargh!!! Lamin Deen charging in the third round of the 4-men, was up to silver medal position......and crashed!! Everyone walked away, but a real medal chance blown.

Not as bad a weekend as Norwegian Nordic Combined athlete Jarl Magnus Riiber, though. Threw away a certain win on Friday by taking a wrong turn at the end, then dislocated his shoulder when challenging for the win on Saturday.

Better news for Andrew Musgrave, got his first World Cup points for several months with an 18th place in the skiathlon in Lahti.

It looked as though the Germans would claim another four-man title, but Oskars Melbārdis pipped Friedrich at the last to join Dukurs as a Latvian world champion!

In Lillehammer, Ross Whyte won silver in the mixed NOC doubles curling final with China's Yu Han - together with the 4 medals (2G 2B) credited to TeamGB, it has been a great week for the team.

Despite not having the climate for snow or ice, the Aussies still won 4 medals (3S 1B) - mostly in the snowboard / ski cross (which is their equivalent of our bobskeleton / curling).

They do actually have some ski resorts, but it is a bit like Scotland, they don't get snow every year. They had good conditions last year, though. And there was absolutely tons in New Zealand.

As it turns out, she was the fastest British woman in Königssee with a fifteenth-place finish - apparently that makes her the youngest competitor at a top-tier bobskeleton comp for 88 years! In 4/5 years' time (if things go very well for her), she could be doing what her YO predecessor is doing now.

Deas and Creighton both had a day to forget as they came 20th / 19th - the former was aiming for a podium finish in the World Cup overall but ends up in seventh place.

Hermann, on the other hand wins the overall with her fifth WC round victory - she finished outside the podium in only one race, which is superb. Olympic v World champion next season could make for a great rivalry next season.

[P.S. Next year's IBSF WCh will be in Sochi...]

Petr Prevc has wrapped up the Ski Jumping world cup this afternoon, with back to back wins in Almaty.

A more pleasant sportsman (or woman) you'd be hard pressed to find. Always humble, without being condescending when being interviewed - all the more worthy as he does interviews in English. An example to many other sportsmen and women.

I guess it has something to do with the fact that it's hard to make your fortune from nordic sports- unless you're right at the top.

This weekend's action

Alpine skiing - Men in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia, women in Jasna Slovenia. Big news is that Lindsay Vonn has done the sensible thing and packed it in for the season, which means that she almost certainly will lose the overall World Cup, but still picks up the Downhill WC.

Friday
Men GS (a make-up race, I think)

Saturday
Men GS
Women GS

Sunday
Men Slalom
Women GS

Nordic Combined - From Shonach, Germany. Final event of the season, already very convincingly won by Erik Frenzel of Germany.

Friday
Team event

Saturday
Gundersen

Cross Country - Tour of Canada continues. The Brits look like they are finishing the season strongly - Andrew Young 17th in the first sprint, Andrew Musgrave a very good 13th in the classic mass start and I think a PB for Annika Taylor, 49th in the classic mass start.

Friday
Freestyle sprint from the Plains of Abraham, Quebec - scene of the one Britain's greatest victories over the French, 13 September 1759. Look out for the famous cliffs which the British climbed by night!

Saturday
Women's freestyle pursuit
Men's freestyle pursuit

Biathlon - World Champs from Oslo continue.

Saturday
Men's sprint
Women's sprint

Sunday
Men's pursuit
14:45 Women pursuit - Not live in Eurosport, but on eurovisionsports.tv

Brits continue to do well in the Cross Country Tour of Canada, Andrew Young 14th and Andrew Musgrave 15th in the sprints yesterday. Musgrave now 16th overall in the Tour itself. Ole Einar Bjoerndalen looks in with a chance of a medal in Oslo, would be a fantastic end to a fantastic career!

Dave Ryding 24th in today's slalom, which puts him into 24th overall in the World Cup standings, so he will become only the 4th ever British skier to get an invite to the World Cup Finals in two weeks time.

Andrew Musgrave 18th in the Cross-Country pursuit yesterday.

And Bjoerndalen gets another silver medal in the pursuit, once again behind Fourcade.

Olé Einar, what a legend. Possibly the greatest sportsman, still competing, in the world today. Having said that, Fourcade should beat all Olé Einar's records if he keeps going at this rate. 3 Golds already this weekend. He could end up with 6, although I fancy Norway to win the relay.

On Eurosport Germany in commentary during the pursuit, Ole Einar was quoted as saying that he didn't feel that he'd missed out on the gold in the sprint, but won the silver. He apparently also said that in his view Martin Fourcard is the greatest biathlete ever, and that his 90+ wins were in an era when the competition was less good.

Given that that was the time when the likes of Frank Luck, Sven Fischer and the like were at their peak I think there is a degree of modesty in has comments.

.
Maybe so, but he deserves the credit for transforming the sport from what was still, back in the late 90s when I started watching, basically a part-time soldiers sport (OK, who were obviously extremely fit people) into a full time professional sport with the subsequent rise in standards and pay for the athletes. All the rest of the athletes had to raise their standards to compete with him, which is why Rafael Poiree and the French team did so much to raise the speed of shooting.

Unfortunately one of the consequences of that is that we in GB have been left way behind...
