Some good results over the weekend.

SILVER!! for Katie Ormerod in the Snowboard Big Air event in Moenchengladbach, and BRONZE! for Billie Morgan in the same.

https://www.teamgb.com/news/ormerod-...odium-finishes

A good 11th place for Andrew Musgrave in the 10km freestyle leg of the Lillehammer triple, but didn't do so well in the classic legs, so 29th overall.

Our Bob/Skeleton sliders all suffered from the problem of one good run and one poor one. In the women's skeleton, Lizzy Yarnold was 4th on her return, Laura Deas 6th. In the men's, Dom Parson 8th. Mica McNeill also 8th in the women's Bob, and Lamin Deen 9th in the Four Man. The main story elsewhere was the strong performance of all the South Korean sliders, they are going to be challenging in all the Olympic races.

Ilka Stuhec wins twice in LL. One of the biggest surprises in quite a while.

This weekend's early start events

Figure Skating - The pre-Christmas Grand Prix series winds up in Marseille, all live on Eurosport and Eurovision sports, starts later this evening and continues to Saturday.

http://www.eurovisionsports.tv/isu/s...ing-ice-dance/

Biathlon from Pokljuka, Slovenia. Busy weekend. All live on Eurosport and also on Eurovision Sports, with full commentary and no ads! Men's turn to go first this weekend.

http://www.eurovisionsports.tv/ibu/

Friday - Men's and women's sprints
Saturday - Men's and women's pursuits
Sunday - Men's and women's relays

Freestyle skiing - Ski Cross from Val Thorens, France. Two sets of races, both on Friday and Saturday. Friday is live on Eurosport and delayed on Sunday.

More to come. And it looks like the early season lack of snow in Canada has come to an end, all the Luge races scheduled for Friday have been postponed to Saturday because the truck carrying all the sledges got stuck in a blizzard on its cross-Canada trek.

And the rest of the week's action....

Alpine skiing - Men are in Val d'Isere, Women are in Sestriere, Italy. Britain's Alexandra Tilly and Dave Ryding should be in action. All live on Eurosport

Saturday - Men and women's Giant Slalom
Sunday - Men and women's Slalom

Cross country skiing
- From Davos, Switzerland.

Saturday - Women's 15K & Men's 30K freestyle
Sunday - Men and Women's freestyle sprints

Short Track Speed Skating - From Shanghai, China,
Live from 05:00 (he says, counting on his fingers) on Saturday & Sunday, but will be available for streaming later.

Luge - Apparently the snow-bound sledges are still stuck in the trackless frozen wasteland that is Manitoba Province, Canada and have not arrived at Whistler. If it goes ahead at all, there will only be one-run races early on Saturday, and no team relay.

GOLD!!! for Elise Christie in the 500m. in Shanghai. After a season of near misses and bad luck, she finally gets her first win. And have just seen a very good fourth for Charlotte Gilmartin in the 1500m.

Meanwhile in the alpine disciplines Alex Tilley has just assured herself of her first ever world cup points In the men's Dave Ryding is currently 8th in the slalom standings after another top 20 result today.

Great to see two Brits doing so well on the world stage.

Alex Tilly finished 22nd in the end, so a very good result which might mean that we have enough National ranking points to get a second woman onto the World Cup start lists.

Another good result on Saturday from Andrew Musgrave, 15th in the 30k in Davos, so goes up to 12th in the Distance World Cup overall.

Latvia certainly lost out on 2 golds at Sochi to Russians in the men's skeleton and 4-man bob.

Elise Christie interview after her golden double weekend.

Coming up next weekend, the pre-Olympic meet in Korea.

The Russian city of Sochi will not host next year's bobsleigh and skeleton World Championships.

The International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation said it would not be "prudent" to hold the championships in a country which has been accused of state-sponsored doping.

Most of the big nations have made noises about joining Latvia in their boycott, so it comes as no surprise.

GOLD!!! again for Elise Christie, this time in the 1000m in the Olympic preview in Korea. Things are really starting to look good for 2018. Charlotte Gilmartin also did well, 7th in the 1500 main final.

Eurosport coverage of cross-country and biathlon is going to be a bit spotty today, so here are the times for the Player or Eurovision Sports.

10:15 Women's CC Mass Start La Clusaz France
12:30 Men's CC Mass Start La Clusaz France
13:00 Men's Biathlon Pursuit Nove Mesto
15:40 Women's Biathlon Pursuit Nove Mesto

Missed the start of the Engelberg skijumping qualification yesterday.

Who was the Norwegian / Swedish expert analyst working alongside David Goldstrom yesterday?

He provided a good insight into the technical aspects, especially on the in-run and timing off the table.

Main target this season will be the WCh in Rotterdam - she has 8 WCh medals, but no title yet. Last season's champs (1S 2B, plus overall bronze) were both successful and frustrating in light of her World Cup success.
Charlotte Gilmartin also did well, 7th in the 1500 main final.
Technically penalised to 7th place - for what it's worth, it's only recently I've learned that term is similar to relegation in track cycling (not disqualification).

.
Just watching now, it's a guy called Frank Andre (not sure of the spelling) who I think is an ex-pro and a regular e-mailer that David refers to a lot during commentary,

And there is yet another Prevc brother!!!!

And it is great that her ski tech is....her Mum! The Norwegians spend countless millions of oil revenues on ski preparation, and the Slovenians just phone home.

SiLVER!! for Lizzie Yarnold in the second race of the season in the awesome cold of Lake Placid, she takes back the World Cup leader's bib aftter the young upstarts from two weeks ago under-performed.

GOLD!!! again for Elise Christie in the second 1000m race of the weekend. I'm not a betting man, but if I was I'd put some money on Elise being the Sports Personality of the Year 2018, because three gold medals at the Winter Olympics are definitely on the cards, she is head and shoulders above the field at the moment.

That WC victory was her fifth of the season, which is a record for her (and also the first time's she won 2 rounds in consecutive weekends).

Oh didnt know that.
Thats cool.

Norway spends *way* too much time and money on ski prep etc, esp in cross country.
It all feels a bit "unfair"...

Thanks for that; finally caught up with the weekend's competitions and found Franks insight really added to David Goldstrom's outstanding enthusiasm for the sport. Hopefully Frank will be able to forego the Spanish sunshine to work alongside David at the Vierschanzen.

Ironic that of the 3 Prevc brother, Peter failed to make the cut in Sunday's competition, and the top 30 were bookended by Prevcs' - Domen first, and Cene last. Some family.

Whilst pairs of brothers and sisters competing aren't that uncommon (Fourcard, Boe and Hautmaeki come quickly to mind), apart from for the Prevc brothers I can only think of the three Gasparin sisters in Biathlon for another example of 3 sibblings competing in the same event.
