And now Anders Fannemel has flown 251.5m! (Check the link above)
Really feel for Peter Prevc; his was a must better controlled landing, but looking at the potentially serious mishap that Dimitry Vasiliev suffered in the training jump on Sunday I wonder if Vikersund is really safe much beyond 250m, given the way in which the landing zone flattens out so much beyond there. It will be interesting to see what Planica produces in March - can't wait for that one!

I was amazed that the BBC actually reported the Prevc jump on Sunday morning, but so far as I can see, apart from for online, they haven't covered Fannemel's achievement.

Final World Cup rankings for the disciplines that finished this weekend.

World Championships will be in Winterberg, 23 Feb - 8 March

Women's Skeleton

2nd Lizzy Yarnold
3rd Laura Deas
7th Rose McGrandle - both Rose and Laura were on their debut seasons

In addition Donna Creighton won the 2nd Division Intercontinental Cup,

Men's Skeleton

5th Dom Parsons
21st Ed Smith

David Smith won the Intercontinental Cup

Women's Bob

Not a very well-supported event this season, with only about 15 regular entrants.

10th Mica McNeill
11th Victoria Olaoye

The men's bob team were going through an experimental season, lots of changes and lots of swapping between World and European Cups, so we didn't put out the same team often enough to make a decent judgement.

Short Track

Elise Christie was obviously our most consistent world class athlete. Her World rankings in each discipline were

500m - 4th
1000m - 4th
1500m - 28th

Charlotte Gilmartin also had some good results

500m - 16th
1000m - 37th
1500m - 22nd

The World Championships will be in Moscow, 13-15 March.

Andrew Musgrave gets a great 12th position in the 30km Skiathlon in the Cross Country World Champs - needless to say, Britain's best ever finish in this sport. Really brave effort, he was up with all the world's best up until about the 28k mark.

Got to Belfast to see this live, apart from having to put up with Colin Murray doing his "thing" a great night of sporting entertainment to be had. They do need to add a regular women's race to co-exist between the men's races though, we'd then be looking at possible games inclusion.

Yes, big impressive crowd. They have had women's races in the past, but only Canadians are mad enough to try it.

I seem to recall one of the Qubec City events having enough women to go from a round of 32 up. WIth each round going before the men's round, which I thought worked well. This year all I've seen are women finals. If they can get that sorted out, it will really expanded.

Another bump: Andrew Musgrave goes in the 15km Freestyle Cross-Country today starting at 12:30 - after his 12th in the Skiathlon this will be Britain's best-ever chance for a top 10 finish. His sister Rosie was 49th in the women's 10K yesterday.

Well, the Eurosport commentators seemed a bit disappointed about it, but Andrew Musgrave came 16th in the 15K, beating a whole bunch of big names. To put it in perspective, in both of his last two races Musgrave has beaten every Finnish and German athlete.

Some early warnings for the weekend.

Second week of the World Championships for Bobsleigh and Skeleton. The British Bob team look like they badly need a good result in the 4-man after two performances so far well out of the top-ten minimum they needed to guarantee funding

Friday - highlights on BBC Red Button 18:00
10:00 Women skeleton 1
11:45 Women skeleton 2

Saturday - Women's skeleton live on BBC Red Button

Thanks for that. They are taking place at Panorama, which is 20 minutes up the mountain from where my aunt lives and where I visited a couple of summers ago. I walked the mountain and runs during the summer, so would be nice to see them with snow on.
