Hi guys, I tried and tried to find the old thread but couldn't and I don't think the advanced search is working.

Anyway, I was just wondering what people thought about the new system we have for comps/games etc.

Everyone happy with it or do we need more or less sections do you think ?

Happy enough, although some games can take a bit of finding. I supopose ideally we'd have a separte sub-forum between internal and external comps, but certainly the number of players in my comps would suffer because you'd be going:

sports
sports sub forum
sports sub sub forum comps
sports sub sub sub forum DS comps

Too much of a maze and people wouldn't find it, so I don't see how things can be improved apart from maybe not having so many comps, perhaps ditching the ones only a couple of people enter....

Sorry only just seen this thread

(that in itself probably says something).

The current set-up is a vast improvement on the old one and for anyone familiar with the set-up navigation is easy (*). Whether that's the case for newbies is a moot point.

The thread you were looking for was, I think, this one
http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1850941

(*) For example, I personally go from "/Sports" to "/Sports: Forum Competitions" and completely ignore the "/Sports: Forum Games" as I know what's in it and that its interest for me is about zero.

That's the one DG

I am just worried we are going to start losing the DS comps. We have already lost a few already which is a shame.

If people are entering the DS league on PG then why dont they enter the comp on DS too ?? That i dont understand.

Now that the new format has settled and we can see the +ve and -ve effect it has, would it be worth suggesting to TPTB that have separate competition folders for different sports would work, with a slight realignment of the folders to emphasise the difference between Competitions and Games.

So "Sports / Sports: Forum Competitions" has sub-folders for e.g:-
Football, Cricket, Rugby, Horse Racing and Others

and "Sports / Sports: Forum Games" sits alongside it instead of above it. Doubt whether this needs to be split as they are all of a similar kind of ongoing game for those interested.

Personally, unless I think there may be a comp starting I might be interested in, I don't even go into the Sports structure as there is still to much (pardon me) crap in there. I subscribe to the threads I'm interested in so get notifications when there is new content. Hence why I only saw this thread by chance.

The sports forum is slowly dying. The Sunday Race comp has gone and this could be the last week of the Saturday one too. No interaction now, its more a chore than a bit of fun.

I am also getting fed up with some people entering comps through DS on PG but not entering the DS ones at all. So why bother ? The fun is slowly draining away.

It's a shame as I enjoy hearing different opinions and the ds comps are well run and a big thanks to you guys for all your hard work.
I am planning a couple of rugby league comps next season

Tend to agree with your comments Darren

I know I don't post as much as I used to although I do try and enter all the comps

Are there any other multi-sport forums that have attracted people away ?

Maybe the answer is to ban all external comps

I mean, this is the Digital Spy forum and should be for Digital Spy competitions, rather than a portal to be used to entice people to other websites.

Completely agree, from what I have seen the other comps are all on mostly the same website anyway so why don't people just go on there if that's what they want? The only comps on here should be those played on here in my opinion.

Just to clarify, although I put an evil grin, I wasn't joking. IMO the reason these forums are "slowly dying out" is because they are clogged up with crap that has nothing to do with DS sport (*).

If someone can show me the DS benefit of them then I'll happily change that view.

(*) However, some may say the same about my horse racing system thread, but at least that is "thread", not "threads".

Maybe they should just be a separate section for the outside Prediction game competitions which to be far Dean does do a lot of work on.

I understand people want their own competition to run and be popular too.

Can I make a suggestion please ?

It looks like the mods won't separate the DS comps from the non DS comps so could we not please do that ourselves in the titles ?

At the time of writing this I counted that 22 of the comps on Page 1 were NON DS comps yet most of them didn't say so. This isn't a criticism of anybody it's just to try and get numbers back up to the DS comps.

Example - There is a PDC Darts World Championship comp listed but it is an external site one. To look at the heading you wouldn't know. Now when Ned comes to do his DS comp people will think it is already up and running because we have had one for 2 weeks on here already.

I think I am also going to impose a little rule on myself too. If there is a DS comp of an event I wont enter the DS league on another site for it too. Let's face it, the person who enters most of the DS leagues on PG doesn't even post on here or enter ANY DS comps.

Point taken guys. In future where possible I will put I PG (Prediction Game) in front of the title. On a personal I try and do both DS & external Comps. The Comps I set up is more of an appetizer to the DS ones.

I think the reason is the ease of entry of course Darren.

If I'm in a rush as usual and do my entries when commuting on the train I find it so much easier just to go on the PG site plug in "predictions for next 7 days" and then can not worry if I miss anything. With the DS site games it means for me a lot of cut and pasting and reading previous posts. I keep missing the Last Man Standing comp for example as I don't go on the site to seek new competitions as often as I should. Superbru have a great site as they send prompt emails for you and they have an app too. Same for Super 6. I actually do the DS prediction competition for the tennis majors - but I find that a lot of work in my disorganised life.

As for the other sub forum under games it always perplexes me why people find ad infinitum word games so compelling .
