You swap your stores via the device settings on your amazon account for usa you'd set it to amazon.com have a usa address too i used my own address but set it to new york usa with zip code 10001 as that is close to my postcode so my card got accepted.
Then for uk you switch your amazon account to amazon.co.uk and use your uk address.

You can now get apps such as kodi onto your recent apps screen on the fire tv.
To do this on your pc go to the amazon site search the app you want kodi and tvcatchup both work as i just did these myself.
Send the app to your device don't worry about it showing firetv as not compatable, once you've done that go to my account on your firetv and select sync apps the apps you just got will appear on your recent screen.

Full credit goes to the Amazon firetv facebook group for this great advice.

Had mine 4 weeks now. What a cracking little box and the dinky remote control is a work of art. My wife already had amazon prime so happily no additional costs were involved. It also compensates for the very poor 7 day only virgin V+ BBC iPlayer catchup provision. Wolf Hall on catchup HD was better picture quality than virgin and the subs actually worked every time. Also I've been waiting years for The Man in The High Castle to make it to TV and they've finally delivered on Prime. I'm currently ploughing through Bosch and Vikings with occasional breaks for PTSD. Absolutely brilliant.

I'm kicking myself i didn't buy one when they were discounted a few weeks ago.

I'll have to wait for the cheap price when it comes round again, if it does

The Amazon Fire TV Stick will be launched soon in the UK (no date yet, but the announcement is close) and that will likely be heavily reduced when it arrives. Who knows, maybe the box will be as well...

Well it'll be for an upstairs TV and the Mrs could do with a box, i think a Stick will be beyond her

I bought the box at the higher price and I'd still rate it as a good buy. Managed to get a price drop refund of the difference though since the price dropped the following week. Amazon can be very good like that. Don't forget to factor in any cost for prime or netflix etc if required (£79 pa).

I have seen information suggesting the next firetv update will enable USB mass storage.

Hi

I selected KODI from amazon apps on my pc - purchased (0.00) - it says it may not be compatible - selected it anyway - it shows in my amazon apps account on PC - but nowhere to be seen on my Fire tv - even after syncing amazon content.

Any ideas ?

I cannot offer a solution unfortunately but can confirm this happened to me too and not just with KODI

You need to sideload it onto your firetv download agk fire from playstore or amazon to your phone/tablet, then download kodi to your phone/tablet.
Once you'd installed Kodi onto your phone open up agk fire and enter your firetv ip when prompted, then you can just send any app from your phone/tablet to your firetv using agk fire.

Regarding the Amazon instant video app for appletv no idea Apple are set to launch their own streaming service later this year.

Bit more additional news the next update will improve bluetooth connectivity to the firetv, it will enable you to use bluetooth compatable controllers, keyboards and mice.
I'm thinking the ps3 joypad might become compatable with the firetv.

Sounds like the new update may address several of my criticisms of what is otherwise an excellent DMP.

Hope it doesn't take too long to come through.

People in the facebook firetv group and on other groups are reporting it's rolling out now. I've seen 7 people so far saying they've had the update 2 have uploaded screenshots.

Got the update this morning.

Tried all my USB flash drives and unfortunately none of them will mount properly. Be interested to hear from anyone here who has more luck.

I received the update.

Connected an USB stick and was able to play a video file in Kodi.

Had my update last night. I connected a Toshiba 500gb external drive direct to the usb with no external power, and got onscreen message telling me it needed to be formatted to fat32 and would I like to format Yes/no. The update states drives upto 128gb, and after formatting I had the onscreen message "external Hard drives not supported". I had a look in settings and the drive is recognised and works well. I have transferred apps to the drive and they work ok.

Atm i'm putting it down to my box being in a strop over something so will test again later if no joy on the phone to amazon it'll be lol.

The old unplug-for-30-seconds trick seems to have worked and now my flash drives are mounting.

It's £64 on Amazon now, don't think it'll get cheaper than that, time for me to buy one
