I've seen rumours around that HD Cinema has stopped working on the AFTV, can anyone confirm as my daughter has my box for the week.
Maybe it's an auto update from Amazon?

Working fine on my box.
Maybe vm, sky, talktalk and bt have blocked it?

You must be lucky then, says no connection on my phone and admin confirms it's been pulled due to MPAA

I bought a FireTV a few days ago, and am enjoying it, with one irritating exception; searching YouTube.

As more experienced users will already know, it's possible to start a voice search when in the YouTube app, but what it actually searches is all the stuff Amazon want to flog. The freebie Amazon FireTv app for IOS is so minimal it almost isn't there, and I've not been able to get that to let me text search YouTube, either.

I did find the Remote Mouse for Fire TV app, which works beautifully as a virtual mouse, letting me click on letters without wearing out my FireTV remote, but again the drop down virtual keyboard does not work. Nor, for that matter, do the up/down left/right buttons, even when in the FireTV home screen.

So far, the only solution I've found is to use the AirPlay/DLNA Receiver (PRO) app (set to the experimental HD mode) in landscape orientation on my iPad, and mirroring the display search using my Dolphin browser.

Does anyone have a better idea, or way to either voice search or search using a virtual keyboard in YouTube?

I link the app to my laptop in settings and go to youtube.com/pair , I search on the laptop and hit play, It fires it over to the app.

Ah, thanks for the thought, but I'm rather hoping to get away from doing things that way. ISTM, that an Interweb enabled device, the FireTV, should be supplied with a browser, or at least proper searching that doesn't relentlessly try to sell stuff.

The hardware I'm quite impressed with, but the software needs more work.

I haven't done it myself but you should be able to sideload a browser onto it.

Hi guys, does anyone know if I can use Overplay with a Amazon fire stick? If so how do you change the DNS settings?
Thx,
I have Hulu installed along with some others but obviously will be Region blocked in the UK.

Is there anyway of loading PLP on the fire stick?

No idea about overplay as after past experience with them i wouldn't touch them with a barge pole, you can use unotelly on firetv so i'd imagine you should be able to use overplay here is uno tellys guide http://help.unotelly.com/support/sol...mazon-fire-tv-

I use tvmc on my fire tv, so I don't have the problem of regional blocking.

Ha. HD Cinema is back but now called Sky HD. Can't imagine that will cause any copyright issues

I am having issues tonight with my aftv in using Netflix. The problem initially manifested itself by no picture but sound. Subsequently any attempt to open Netflix crashes the aftv. I have uninstalled the app and then reinstalled but issue reappears. I do use unblock us, don't know if this the cause of the issue, although has previously worked without any problem.

Has anyone else had similar issues?

Oddly enough, when I fired up Netflix on my AFTV last night, the first thing it said was that Netflix had deactivated my device. Not a big deal, as I just needed to sign in again, but this is the first time I have seen this message. Video played back without issue.

^^ I some times get signed out of NF if Unblock Us is playing up and won't change region properly, maybe it's NF's way of stopping us, without stopping us, to appease the film companies.

Yes, it has the BBC iPlayer which is sort of, well, the best catch-up service anywhere in the world. And BBC Sport, and STV Player (as ITV Player is not there) and Demand 5. For those after live TV via the Internet it also has TVPlayer and Mediahhh.

It will also be getting its own chromecast type feature, but we have no idea how popular that will be with developers.

It is also cheaper (stick) than the Apple TV and has an app store.

If you use Smart DNS to get more Netflix channels and Hulu, you can also mix apps from different countries which you can't do on the ATV.

That said... the Apple TV has AirPlay.

And, a new Apple TV will most likely come out either next month or the month after, and the rumour is that it will be a pretty hot box with an App store. So, it may be worth waiting. Also because there are rumours of a new AFTV as well coming out sometime between October & Xmas.

Is there a way to update Kodi rather than reinstall? I am on version 14.2, 15 is out. Is there a way to update rather than install as I don't want to have to reload all my repo's etc.

I don't think you can update it, i tried but got an error when i tried to sideload the new version, it says already installed.
Edit:
Found this info:-

How to update Sideloaded Apps
(For example, updating Kodi to a newer version without losing your settings)
Download the updated APK to your computer
Connect to your Fire TV or Fire TV Stick via ADB
Run the command:
adb install -r C:\full\path\to\app.apk
(Note: The -r in the above command is important. Also, replace C:\full\path\to\app.apk with the full path to your apk file.)
Wait for a “Success” message to appear. This may take several minutes.
