For USA or those who know work arounds Dish have become the first big provider to announce a service that doesn't require a cable or sat box, slingtv will be available for $20p/m and will be on many platforms including firetv, roku http://www.theverge.com/2015/1/5/749...unced-ces-2015

Discovered a cracking little app that changes your home screen so you don't get Amazon video etc, instead you see all your apps including your sideloaded apps.
https://github.com/Redth/FiredTVLauncher/releases might be of use to some of you, i use it and find it much better.
Also most wireless mice work with the fire tv too i'm using my cheap Acer wireless mouse i popped the dongle into the firetv usb port and away i went.

Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone can help me. I have loaded Huluplus into my Amazon Fire TV but everytime I try to run it I get the error message "Internal Service Failure. An internal error occurred. This can be caused by lack of network connectivity. Please make sure you have a good network connection".

I am unsing Unotelly and every other app is fine including other regions of Netflix . I have tried wired and wireless but the same message appears. I would be grateful if anyone could help me sort it.

Many thanks.

Hi,

Would appreciate a little help with an issue I'm having.

I'm got a Amazon Fire Box running XMBC. I've downloaded the NBC sports app but need to amend my internet settings so that I can view content,

I have a Virgin Media Superhub but don't think I can amend the DNS setting on this. What the best way of getting around this?

I've used UnblockUS on my computer but don't know what to use for the Amazon Fire box.

Thanks to anyone that can help.

You can add Unblock-us' DNS servers direct to the Amazon Fire TV. It's not hard, but is a bit fiddlier than some other platforms.

There is a step-by-step guide here:

Ah cool, while we're on similar subjects, I've got the Plex app on Fire TV, but can't seem to add or see any of the channels. Do I need to install the manger programme on my imac, choose the channels and then stream to my Fire TV?

Plex needs to be running on your pc/mac too, install the channels via plex on your computer and they should show up on your firetv plex app too.

Thanks mate, knew you either yourself or OBVG would answer.

I tried googling it but get never seem to find a straight answer. Seems weird why you have to do that, as Fire TV is connected to the net, you'd think you could just get them straight from there.

Looks like I've just found this weekends technical project.

Plex needs a server, that's the reason. This is what makes it different from XBMC.

The beauty of the server is that you can also have a Netflix-style UI, where you can start a film on one device and continue on another, or at least, all your devices will have the same library and channels.

Hi,

I followed the instructions on the link you provided and apart from a bit of buffering, it worked. Many thanks for your help with this. Much appreciated.

Surprised with the buffering though as I have a 150mb wired connection.

Hi Harj, glad it is all working.

The problem is less likely your 150MB connection, but more likely to be the way you are trying to access the NBC content.

The NBC has no official AFTV app, so you have used a sideloaded XBMC app, which also is not officially supported for the AFTV. The stream on XBMC itself is unofficially supported as well, so you have an unofficial stream, on an unofficial plugin, on an unofficial app on the AFTV

This is likely to be the cause. I also have access to NBC Sports Live Extra via Unblock-us, but through their official apps, and the stream works perfect. I'm going through a much more modest 50MB broadband connection.

As an alternative, you may want to try and directly sideload the NBC Sports Live Extra app onto your AFTV. I don't know if this will work better, as it is still not officially supported for the AFTV, but who knows?

Hi,

Thanks for the quick response, what do you use to access the official app? Do you need to have a USA address or anything?

I have an iPad but can't download the app because its on the USA store.

To access the official app, you just need to download it from the US iTunes store. You can easily do this by following this guide.

Generally speaking, you will need a subscription to an American cable TV company (or satellite TV) to access most content from the app. If it is the Super Bowl you are after though, that is offered for free with around 11 hours coverage today.

Can you just say no? I haven't tried it myself to be honest. Some apps can happily sideload onto the AFTV but not all.

On my iOS device, if I say no to switching location on, it just lives with it. I think some city-based streams will be blocked then (probably related to blackout events in the US like some NFL games) but I don't watch enough to really notice.

That would be interesting gother, an official FireTv app. I wonder how they will manage US localization without location services? Perhaps just IP based.

I can see that they will have to eventually add some STB support, and possibly go OTT as well, what with ESPN ending up on Sling TV and such.

Will be very interesting.

Agreed. I've also noticed UK and DE apps starting to appear on my AFTV Stick, and Amazon Prime UK & DE are now live on it. Until a week or so ago, only US services were working on this HDMI dongle.

I suspect there will soon be an announcement for a launch.

I can confirm that nbcsportsextra app now works on the firetv you will need to hunt down the latest version i got mine from appotide which i have sideloaded, then you just click on cancel when it asks to confirm location.
You will require a smart dns/vpn and a usa tv login such as xfinity.

Hi,

How do I play video files from a USB stick in XBMC? Or even in AFTV directly, if possible?

When I go to Video > Files, I browse for the USB stick but can't locate it. Ive done a bit of digging and all I see is that I have to root the AMTV and then mount the USB. Is this the only way?

The USB stick worked on my PS3 to play video files so don't think format is an issue
