It's the "week-end" golfers who wear decent stuff on the course.
Those who play several times during the week, wear mostly older clothes. The course can ruin any decent clothes, if you're searching for someone's ball in the bushes a few times.
I have "dual purpose" clobber, gardening/golf.
As long as it isn't jeans, or a shirt without a collar, it conforms to the strict dress code.

A lot of serious amateur dancers will manage to practice for 4 hours a day as well as taking lessons and holding down full time jobs. It's not unknown for couples to have lessons at midnight., Sleep? What's sleep if you've a comp at the end of the week?

brings back memories years ago when my brother competed can remember finishing at our dance school and driving to Margaret Redmonds often at midnight to pick him up and then lessons out of town driving hundreds of miles early hours to london round of lessons and comp then home and work next day - dont know were we found the energy!

No, if you declare the ball as "lost" you have to return to the exact place from where you played it, take a penalty of one shot, then play the shot again. So you're on your third shot from the same place.
Balls aren't a problem, you probably find more than you lose as others turn up in the rough when you are looking for yours or someone elses. You "wear out" more balls than you lose. A ball lasts usually no more than two rounds.

I am not sure if you are doing it or its just me but I really struggled to read any of that with a straight face. I think I can empathise its much the same every time I've played a round.

You get to an age when you don't take yourself or golf too seriously and we can be very cruel to each other. I was playing in a four-ball the other week and one of my partner's "leccy" trolley ended up in a lateral stream. The sides are very steep and slippery. What with the weight of the clubs and the water in the bag and the weight of the trolley and its battery, three of us had great difficulty in getting it out.
He and it were in a right state as he had to wade in and push it up whilst two of us pulled on the trolley handle. As he was scoring for the three of us, I casually said "I hope you haven't got our card wet." The other two fell about laughing and even he saw the funny side of it.

I hate to derail a dance thread, but there is no such thing in the Rules of golf as "declaring a ball lost" . One of the great myths, frequently perpetuated.

Golf takes up a lot up time. My clubs were nicked some years ago and I have not replaced them. I go cycling for fresh air and exercise and tango. Oops. Sorry for bringing it to dance ...

R&A Rule 27, If it can't be found, it's deemed or declared as lost. Let's not go there though.
Balls are often lost in competitions. You can play a "provisional" from the same spot if you think it's lost, it saves time, but that only becomes "in play," if after search of no more than five minutes, (that's a rule too), the original is agreed by all players of that group the original is considered "lost." You still lose a "shot."

If you find it you have to play it, from wherever it is, except if it's deemed "unplayable" then there's rules about where you can drop it and the penalty incurred. If it's found "out of bounds" that's the same as being "lost."
I play in enough competitions and everyone watches everyone else for possible rule infringements, particularly that one.

With regards to practising in trainers, whilst not ideal, it might be a stipulation of some of the training rooms they are using. A lot of the celebs seem to be using gyms and studios off of gyms. Sometimes sports hall floors have a no heels policy so they wouldn't be able to wear their actual dance shoes. I agree that they then should use split soled dance trainers rather than your average pair of Nike/Adidas/other brand of trainer.

Though this series, why are so few men wearing latin shoes for their performance? Celeb male latin would improve if they wore the correct shoe as the heel would tip them onto the balls of their feet. I know at uni we always advised our male beginners to start with ballroom shoes but as they progressed they were advised to invest in latin shoes too. You can dance latin in a ballroom shoe but it is still easier in the correct footwear.

I can remember many years ago, what stilettos did to one of my club's squash court floors, when some numpty brought in a few female visitors on to it, during their being shown around during a club dance.
